Memorials / Monuments, Quartier Latin
Fodor's Review:
The narrow windy cobblestone street is one of Paris's oldest -- it was once a Roman road leading south from Lutecia (Roman Paris) to Italy. The lower half of the hilly street has a lively street market, open every morning from 8 AM to 1 PM. Chocoholics will love Nicholson (No. 112), and those with a nose for strong cheese will be in heaven at Androuët (No. 134). It's worth the detour to the nearby Boulanger de Monge (No. 123 rue Monge) for one of the best baguettes in Paris. The shops along the street are closed on Monday. The restaurants on the upper half of the street get pretty touristy at night, so you'll probably enjoy this more during the day.
