Riots in Paris

How is the situation in Paris? We would be arriving the day after Bastille day. Are there any areas to be avoided?

All troubles ended a week ago, but the government is planning to be extra careful on 14 July.

Our neighbours got caught up in the strife in Paris a couple of weeks ago and found it very, very scary and got confined to their hotel for a day or two. The sale of fireworks pre Bastille day has been banned so I imagine that the authorities are fearful of it all kicking off again. Also check out the dates of the French Air Traffic Controllers strike. I think they have one scheduled for 15 July. Lots of flights are being cancelled this summer.

The sale of fireworks has been banned in France for at least 20 years. The only difference is that this year they are planning to enforce it.

Thank you! I haven't been able to find any information about the July 15th ATC strike. If you have it handy, can you please post a link?

I have not seen any notice about any ATC strike in July. The last strike was in June.

The CGT union says they are striking every day in July and August, at least warn that, not sure about that, but that's not ATC. I did see a news item about how in general, they agreed to stop striking until next Fall (from their meeting on 6/13 I think it was, overall striking). That is garbage collectors but I think they said they were striking forever last April, anyway.

Reuters didn't say anything about ATC striking in France in July as far as I know, they just said they had striked in early June and some other countries were having strike problems. IN fact, they said Ryanair pilots in Belgium were striking on July 15.

Filing a strike notice is extremely different from actually striking. It just makes it legal if they actually strike, which is really pretty rare.
