Sophistication and attention to the smallest detail prevail in the modern rooms of this four-star boutique hotel—from the custom-designed swing-out night tables to the white goose-down duvets and custom umbrellas. The hotel, which was built in 1912 as a warehouse, has rooms on higher floors with views of either the St. Lawrence River or the Old City.

We stayed here in July and had 2 rooms - a superior deluxe room and a Germain double. Both rooms were great but the superior deluxe was outstanding - a huge room with a bathroom almost equal in size, incredibly comfortable bed, everything spotlessly clean and decor that was extremely tasteful and relaxing. The service was outstanding; everyone was very friendly and helpful and genuine in their desire to make our stay the best it could be. The 'continental breakfast' is a bit of a misnomer - it was extensive and beautifully fresh (several fresh juices, cereals, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, pates, fruit, muffins, croissants etc etc). I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and I believe it is one of the best value hotels I have ever stayed in.

This was our second stay at the Hotel Dominion and this stay left us questioning the hotel's possibly exaggerated reputation.
Parking arragnement has been one of the worst experience in years.
Room service: The hotel's room service is simply akward. Arriving relatively late, we opted to eat-in. . It took 20-30 minutes for the wine and menu to arrive to our room. As there was not a cork screw in the room (shame), we asked to borrow the one brought to the room by the hotel staff (we were not keen on him coming into the room for the ceremonial wine opening, etc). 5 minutes later, he called to say that that was the only cork screw in the hotel, could he come back up to retrieve it -- we complied. The food was eventually delivered and was fine.
Bath: Our room's shower had extremely low water pressure and modest heat, in a standard tub/shower set-up -- as far as boutique hotel bathrooms go, this one was very mediocre.
The hotel features many of the "boutique hotel" staples, ie. quality linens, freshly washed duvet covers, Aveda bath products. But it also appeared to be missing many elements to distinguish it as a top boutique experience or even to compete with where mainstream hotels have gone. No cordless phones. "Old-fashioned" tube TV -- not flat, plasma or HD. When one stays at a boutique hotel, one is looking for something of a modern escape, characterized by elevated service and conveniences -- not a diminishment in technology, etc that one has at home.
Hotel Dominion is an average boutique hotel, that may not deserve the high ratings it receives on this site, nor the prices it charges during high season. On our next stay to Quebec City, we will give another Vieux Quebec hotel a try.
