Providence Mountains State Recreation Area

Drive around the area and marvel at the desert vistas, or overnight at one of five pack-in/pack-out campsites. The main attraction, however, is Mitchell Caverns. Access to them is via 1.5-mile round-trip hike and a two-hour, ranger-led tour, during which you'll encounter stalactites, flowstone, stalagmites, and possibly cave-dwelling animals. Providence Pedestrian Bridge

Officially the Michael S. Van Leesten Memorial Bridge (named for a prominent civil-rights advocate, business leader, and driver of economic advancement in Providence), this 450-foot-long footbridge spans the Providence River. Similar in style to New York's High Line, the bridge features performance spaces, public seating, and fantastic skyline views. Opened in 2019, the bridge is the final link creating a downtown loop walk that includes new parks on the East Side and the Jewelry District banks of the river, and extending north through downtown's Waterplace Park.

Prudential Center

Back Bay

The 52-story Prudential Tower, or "the Pru," dominates the acreage between Boylston Street and Huntington Avenue. Its enclosed shopping mall anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue is home to over 60 stores and restaurants and is connected by a glass bridge to the more upscale Copley Place. The popular food emporium, Eataly, located in the Pru, offers a great spot for a quick bite or DIY fixings for an Italian feast. As for the Prudential Tower itself, the architectural historian Bainbridge Bunting made an acute observation when he called it "an apparition so vast in size that it appears to float above the surrounding district without being related to it." Later modifications to the Boylston Street frontage of the Prudential Center effected a better union of the complex with the urban space around it, but the tower itself floats on, vast as ever. In 2023, the Pru's top three floors welcomed a reimagination of the famed SkyWalk called View Boston, an incredible vantage point to view all of Boston with 360 degrees of observation complete with sky-high dining and bar options.

Prudential Plaza

Chicago Loop

There are two architecturally notable buildings at the plaza. Directly west of the Aon Center and across from Millennium Park is One Prudential Plaza. Designed by Alfonso Iannelli and completed in 1955, this limestone-and-ridged-aluminum structure was once the city's tallest building (barring the statue of Ceres atop the Board of Trade). At the time, it had the world's fastest elevators and an observation deck that became passé once some of the city's other behemoths were completed. Attached to One Prudential is its sibling Two Prudential Plaza, nicknamed "Two Pru," a towering glass-and-granite giant with an address of 180 North Stetson Avenue. Along with their neighbors they form a block-long business-oriented minicity. Two Prudential is the tallest reinforced concrete building in the city, and its blue detailing and beveled roof are instantly recognizable from afar.

Pryor Mountain Wild Mustang Center

At this interpretive center inside a modern log cabin just up the road from the Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center, photos, printed materials, and helpful volunteers introduce people to the 120 to 140 mustangs that roam over 38,000 acres of range. Although many of the mustangs will likely be up in the mountains, you're almost sure to see some right from the paved road, Highway 37, which is a short drive east of the center. This could include White Cloud, a stallion featured in two books by Ginger Kathrens.

Pteranodon Flyers

Islands of Adventure

These prehistoric bird–style gondolas are eye-catching and tempting. The catch is that this very slow, very low-capacity kids' ride can eat up a lot of your park time. Do it only if (1) your child asks, (2) you want a prehistoric-bird's-eye view of the Jurassic Park compound, or (3) you've been to the park a dozen times and this is the last ride to conquer. For people with disabilities: Guests using wheelchairs must transfer to a ride vehicle. Crowds are usually perpetual, waits can be long, and Express Pass isn't offered. Consider skipping this on your first visit.

Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park

For a leg-stretching break (and restrooms) stop at this small roadside park just past mile marker 22. Here you can enjoy the short hike to a small waterfall and pool across the highway from the bathrooms. The park is one of the few places on the highway with a decent amount of parking. It also has picnic tables and friendly cats to welcome you.

The Pub at Golden Road

Atwater Village

Sustainability and community have always been core values behind this L.A. brewery’s mission, but Golden Road Brewing is equally passionate about making great food and excellent beer. With several core brands, as well as a few specialty and seasonal brands, this is a must-stop for any craft beer lover vacationing in the City of Angels. Try the Mango Cart wheat ale on draft.

Public Hospital

A reconstruction of a 1773 insane asylum, the Public Hospital provides an informative, shocking look at the treatment of the mentally ill in the 18th and 19th centuries. It also serves as cover for a modern edifice that houses very different exhibitions; entrance to the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum is through the hospital lobby.

Public Square Park

Downtown

Known for formerly hosting festivals like Live on the Green or Nashville Pride, Public Square is located in front of the courthouse. Featuring an expansive green space perfect for having a picnic or playing ball, statuesque elevator towers that can be climbed for an expansive view, and fountains that children play in during warmer months, it’s a lovely place to take a break from the hubbub of Downtown.

Pueblo Zoo

In City Park, this biopark is home to African penguins, ringtail lemurs, and boa constrictors—housed separately of course. Favorites here include African painted dogs, lions, river otters, and the annual holiday feature ElectriCritters, an evening light display that involves more than 250,000 lights, which runs from late November through the end of the year.

Pueblo-Weisbrod Aircraft Museum

At the city's airport, the Pueblo-Weisbrod Aircraft Museum traces the development of American military aviation with nearly 35 aircraft in mint condition, ranging from a Lockheed F-80 fighter plane to a MiG-15. Curator Shawn Kirscht restored a Boeing B-29 Super Fortress of atomic-bomb fame on-site, which is now on display in Hangar One.

Puerto de Luna

Spanish explorer Francisco Vásquez de Coronado is said to have settled the quaint village of Puerto de Luna, 10 miles south of Santa Rosa on NM 91, back in 1541, and the area has been a crossroads of settlers, travelers, and the railroad ever since. The bypassing of Santa Rosa, when Route 66 was replaced by I–40, has clearly impacted the town, although it maintains more vitality and economic activity than many of the towns along the route in this part of the state. There is a real pride among Santa Rosa's residents, and traditions of the town's deep Hispanic roots are still apparent.

Puget Sound Navy Museum

A favorite among Bremerton's interesting maritime-related attractions, this museum on the waterfront near the ferry terminal is set inside a stately 1890s shipyard building. It brings American naval history to life through war photos, ship models, historic displays, and American and Japanese war artifacts.

Puihi of Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides

Volcano Bay

This multiperson rafting ride follows a journey similar to that of its neighbor, Maku. But this one includes a few different twists and turns—primarily one with a moment of zero-gravity hang time as you spring out of an immense funnel. The twists keep coming as you cling to the raft handles and rock and roll to a spectacular splash finish. For people with disabilities: There's a lift next to the main queue area; guests must be able to transfer to the ride raft unassisted or with help from a member of their party.

Puka Uli Lagoon

Volcano Bay

A relaxing place for families, this small leisure pool is relatively secluded from the park's most active areas (albeit beside the splashdown pool of the Ohyah and Ohno slides) and includes elements that kids will appreciate—namely jets of water they can spray and tropical bongo drums they can beat. For people with disabilities: A pool lift makes it easier for guests in wheelchairs to transfer into pool, but they must do so unassisted or with help from a member of their party.

The nearly 1-mile Pullman Trail is the national park's only trail that's open to both hikers and mountain bikers. It connects the park with the Northwoods Trail System, a network with 31-plus miles of world-class mountain biking routes located outside of the park. Easy–Moderate.

Punaluu Beach Park

If you're making a circle of the island, this is a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and get your toes wet. It's nice (there is a sandy bottom and mostly calm conditions) and easy (the sand literally comes up to your parked car). Plus there are full facilities, shops for picnic supplies, and lots of shade trees. Often overlooked, and often overcast, Punaluu can afford you a moment of fresh air before you get back to your sightseeing. Amenities: food and drink; parking (no fee); showers; toilets. Best for: solitude; swimming.

Punga Racers

Volcano Bay

For some friendly family competition, grab a mat and pick a lane. There are four tracks on this attraction, and once you have your mat, you'll launch yourself into a tube that twists and turns and then changes to an open-air slide just to keep things interesting. The first person to cross the finish line of this race receives a celebratory spray of water. For people with disabilities: Guests must be able to climb stairs and exit the finish area unassisted.

The Punk Rock Museum

West Side

\"Fat Mike\" Burkett of NOFX is behind this two-story, 12,000 square-foot tribute and repository of in-your-face rock. The displays are organized by geography and eras—such as \"1970s Los Angeles\" or \"1980s San Francisco Bay Area,\" complete with QR codes linking to relevant playlists. Along with the expected array of photos, stage get-ups, guitars, T-shirts and hand-written set lists (London Calling by The Clash), you'll find surprises such as monster masks, a partial bottle of Jack Daniels waiting for the late \"Lemmy\" of Motorhead, and even a . . . melodica? Yes, it was played onstage by Big D & The Kids Table. Something else you might not expect: it's pretty quiet. Because the music changes from room to room, nothing rattles the walls. The museum occasionally hosts stand-up comics, and guided tours are offered several times a month by veteran rockers. The full-service museum even hosts weddings and a tattoo studio. An indoor/outdoor bar called The Triple Down is a spin-off of the punk-enough Double Down near the UNLV campus.

Purdy's Macadamia Nut Farm

Molokai's only working macadamia nut farm is open for educational tours hosted by the knowledgeable and entertaining owners. The family-owned farm takes up 1½ acres with a flourishing grove of 50 original trees that are more than 90 years old, as well as several hundred younger trees. The nuts taste delicious right out of the shell, home roasted, or dipped in macadamia-blossom honey. Look for Purdy's sign behind Molokai High School.

Purple Haze Organic Lavender Farm

One of the best places to pick or even just stroll through Sequim's most famous agricultural product, this sustainable farm contains 7 acres of lavender fields as well as lawns for picnicking and a gift shop that carries bath and body products, honeys and jams, and other lavender-infused gifts. A little snack stand sells lavender ice cream and lemonade in summer.

Purple Pachyderm

"Come for the Primus, stay for the wines" is the unspoken motto of this winery the funk-metal band Primus's bassist and lead vocalist, Les Claypool, founded (as Claypool Cellars) with his wife, Chaney. The weiner stand out back and the 21st-century hippie-casual tasting room—a former boat-repair shack with an unpainted-wood interior and catchy Craigslist-castoff furnishings—are two signs this isn't an aren't-we-fabulous vanity project. So, too, are the cool-climate Pinot Noirs from Sonoma Coast grapes. Made by Ross Cobb, a local master of the genre, these wines would earn serious consideration no matter who fronted them.  On Fridays and weekends, frivolity reigns at Wines and Weiners, the latter Niman Ranch gourmet hot dogs.

Put-in-Bay Winery

Although most people are more likely to associate Ohio with corn or soybean production than they are with wine, the Buckeye State has had a strong viticulture industry since the early 19th century. South Bass Island has a couple of wineries of its own, the newest of which is Put-in-Bay Winery. There’s a gift shop and a small exhibit on winemaking; those who want a more thorough experience can go on one of the half-hour tasting tours, which combine a tasting session (for those of legal drinking age) with a tour of the estate’s Victorian mansion.
