Waikiki Resort Hotel - comments?

Anyone stayed at, or know about, the Waikiki Resort Hotel? One of my coworkers is going there soon and got an awesome rate. I am going to Oahu myself and am wondering if I should try for the same rate, but haven't heard any mention of this hotel in any of my research yet.

Thanks.

Do you mean the Waikiki Ocean resort Hotel down near the zoo? It is about one block from the beach, a very modest -type property used a lot by tour groups. OK if you are on a tight budget but it is definitely not a "resort."

The info I saw did not have the word ocean in the name but referred to it as "Waikiki Resort Hotel". I found this website and think this is the one: http://www.waikikiresort.com/

Bart, I looked at the website you posted and believe Vivi has the correct hotel. The website states the address of the Waikiki Resort as 130 Liliukalani Avenue and mentions it's a 10 minute walk from the zoo and one half block from Kuhio Beach. The address of the hotel is 130 Liliuokalani Avenue in case any locals want to give you further information. IMO, the only "resort" about this hotel is in the name. Don't know if that truly matters to your friend.

Tripadvisor.com also has reviews of the Waikiki Resort. I hope this is the type of hotel your friend wants. It doesn't sound like it's a bad hotel, but I know from personal experience that when you're thinking you're staying at a resort only to find out it's not true. . . Well, it's not a good feeling. It took my recent second trip to Oahu to get that bad taste out of my mouth.

Hope this information helps!

OK, the Waikiki Resort and the Waikiki Ocean Resort ARE 2 different hotels, located about 3 blocks from each other.

The Waikiki Resort is on a side street off the main drag, pretty much between the Hyatt and the Marriott. I am sure I have walked past it a thousand times but I cannot picture the building.

If you are the type that wants a hotel room to sleep and shower, then you should be fine. Just do not be expecting fine resort-like facilities. The small side streets behind Kalakaua
and the Kuhio Ave area are slightly seedy but not unsafe, in my opinion.

Cats and vivi,

Thanks for the information. From what she says, I think they just want a place to sleep.

That's mostly the same for me - but I think I might want a little more. I'll take a look at tripadvisor and research it some more.
Thanks!
