oahu - nicest resort hotel on the beach?

Looking for a luxurious high end resort hotel on the beach on Oahu. Any suggestions? We are only going for a long weekend and would like to be close to the airport.

There's nothing that close to the airport (Waikiki is about a 30-min. or less drive). In Waikiki, your best bet would be the Halekulani or the Royal Hawaiian.

Halekulani, Royal Hawaiian & Moana Surfrider in that order.

Halekulani, Kahala Hotel, or Ihilani.

All are on the web.

Halekulani has the rep of being THE luxury hotel on Oahu. I haven't stayed there but have been there many times for dinners, parties etc. It must be the service, because the layout and decor, while very nice, is nothing special IMO.

Ihilani is part of Ko Olina resort and they have major construction going on next door, so you may want to inquire about that.

Kahala Resort, The newly remodeled Royal Hawaiian, the Moana, the Halekulani or the Ihilani. the first and last one if you want to relax on the beach, The middle three for a nice experience with lots of activity nearby.

Halekulani, Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki. Kahala Resort is a little farther away from the action but very nice. Finally way out there is the Ihilani. I am almost embarassed to admit, I like the man-made beaches at Ko Olina.

I think Halekulani is the best.

Your choices are only the few mentioned, so not all that many to choose from. Halekulani, Royal Hawaiian, Moana Surfrider are the nicest in Waikiki (but I wouldn't call them "resorts" just very nice hotels). And Kahala outside of town.

None are close to the airport, but about 30 mins. away in Waikiki (or beyond for Kahala).

Not a resort, but on its own lovely little beach is the New Otani near Diamond Head. Rooms are not usually that big except maybe a suite but their ocean view rooms (not just the ocean front) has the whole sweep of Waikiki as its view! Gorgeous, especially early and evening. And their restaurant is open air under lovely trees...good breakfast. The small beach is accessible, next door is aquarium and across the street is Queen Kapiolani Park as well as Diamond Head just a few blocks further.

So unless you opt for a suite I would say this is a lovely, friendly comfortable worth it place to stay.

I love the New Otani, but it doesn't have a pool, if that matters to you.
