Our friends stayed there as part of a package deal and were happy, but they knew not to expect the Ritz. They thought it a good location with adequate rooms, a too-big hotel to be able to please everyone but if you're on a budget it's a decent choice.

We stayed there as part of a tour we took once when my husband had had recent heart surgery. It's a high rise a block from the beach near the Diamond Head end. It was fine; had a kitchenette. It's not luxury but perfectly adequate.
We are staying there again this summer because we are making a seven-member family trip. We have booked two rooms, and they don't charge for extra people. We are staying two weeks and will be glad to have the kitchens available for breakfast or sandwiches when we feel like it. We got a really good rate through bookit.com paying a bit extra for ocean view.

Always like to say thanks when someone inspires me with a new budget option for waikiki.
I would check out any entry on trip advisor and epinions if I had a question. Take all opinions with a grain of salt if you don't have a point of reference for the posters tastes.
I like the part of Waikiki this hotel seems to be on. Always best to be just a block if not on the ocean in Waikiki or I prefer I should say. I also often go back and forth about which end to stay on as both ends offer quick access out.

We stayed there and had a very nicely sized ocean view room with kitchenette for an extremely reasonable price. I think they even included some vouchers for breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It wasn't the Hawaiian Hilton but it was clean and convenient. The rate given on the "specials" tab of the hotel website - oceanresort.com - was better than anything I found on travelocity etc.

We will be there on Jan 28-30, so I can let you know then. I looked long and hard for a decent place that wasn`t too expensive. Seems like the old reviews on tripadvisor were awful, but then they remodeled, and people seem to think it`s ok now.
