Upscale sports bars NYC?
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a nice place to watch the World Series in NYC? We're not into ESPN ZONE, or college age sports bars, but perhaps an upscale lounge that has TV's and maybe music. The games will all be at night.

While I'm sure that most bars will have the World Series on TV, I doubt that you're going to find it in an upscale lounge. ESPN is about as upscale as sports bars get, so perhaps I'm missing something here. There's a new bar on east 41st Street called Public House NYC that shows sports a lot. It's near Grand Central. And there are many, many so-called Irish pubs that show sports. I can't think of any other specific places.

I'm not sure either exactly what you mean by upscale, but I love Joshua Tree. There is one on 46th near 9th and another on the east side (google and find the website and pictures). The one on 46th has large screens and shows sports, but parts of it are much more nice lounge or restaurant than just a noisy sports bar. Good food too.

There is a new place on the Lower East Side called Blue seats that is supposed to be an "upscale" sports bar--they do charge a table minimum though.

There has been some controversy as to who would pay a minimum to watch a game that is free at many other bars, but, whatever.
Also the 40/40 Club is a sports bar/lounge and is considered "upscale."

There is more than ESPN Zone for sports in Manhattan--you will pay a premium.

Unfortunately, it seems nearly every bar/lounge has at least 1 flat screen at this point. Whether upscale and sports actually go together, that is a different matter.
In either case there are places to watch sports that *are* calling themselves sports bars that have couches, etc. which I assume the OP is looking for. Again, one pays more to go to such places.

You've received some good info so far -- just a note about how the forum works best. It is better if answers are posted right on the thread instead of e-mailed privately.
1) Some are reluctant to e-mail strangers and 2) other Fodorites might benefit from the info.
(ESPN Zone is about as posh as I get when it comes to sports bars, so I can't really help w/ your question)
