NYC after-theater drinks/music
For many years we've met up with several couples (west coast, southern U.S., New England) in NYC for a theater/dining weekend - we alternate choosing theater/hotel/restaurant/etc - my task 2006 is post theater -but I lv soon and will be traveling till night before this so need to do my asking a bit early - some new ideas from the fodorite nyc experts?
3 nights to fill post theater- drinks and talking - some music one night would be nice -piano, jazz - maybe one that serves appetizers/dessert if someone craves late snack - near theater district/ our hotel (Michelango, 152 W 51st)....
we are 50-62- although one night of something wild and loud could be fun - we did some russian vodka bar one year that filled that bill - my daughter lives in city, but she is 24 and doesn't seem to be much help on this one-except maybe the one loud and wild night

Dizzy's Coca Cola would be a good idea 1 night. New jazz venue with views of the park in the Time Warner building. Mons. students from Juilliard perform and the price is less but don't know if you'll be there on a Mon.
Other places with music in the theater area:
>Don't Tell Mama, a piano bar on restaurant row across from Joe Allen.
>Firebird also on rest. row has music and is very pretty at this time of year.
>The Algonquin hotel--either the Oak Room for real cabaret show or just the bar or lobby lounge. Very atmospheric.
>Birdland may have something interesting
>Swing 46
>Iridium is another jazz place.
There are lots of places further uptown and downtown if you're willing to travel.

At Don't Tell Mama, there's a 2 drink min. at the piano bar (downstairs). The cabaret upstairs charges $10-20/person depending.

I don't think there's a cover or minimum for the piano lounge at Firebird but you should check.
