The Very Best Hotel In Boston.........
I am looking at the Four Seasons or The Ritz Carlton but neither gets goods reviews on Trip Advisor. I have always enjoyed these hotels in other cities. Does anyone care to offer some advice. Thanks.

We stay at the Westin Copley Square in Back Bay area. It has always been outstanding. Trip Advisor rates it highly as well. WE actually got it through Priceline the first time. We arrived early in the morning after getting off the cruise ship. We asked if we could leave our luggage somewhere until our room was ready. They said - no problem we could have a room immediately. The Westin beds are great (Heavenly Beds) and the location of the hotel is excellent. We always stay there now after having such wonderful treatment by the staff.

There were two Ritz hotels in Boston - the Ritz Carlton and the Ritz Common - forgive if I don't get the names right but here in Boston we just called them the new Ritz and the old Ritz. The new Ritz is contemporary and sleek. The old Ritz was as old school as you could get and absolutely lovely. The old Ritz has been sold recently and is now called the Taj Boston. There may be some confusion in Trip Advisor over which hotel is which.
But in any case - the Four Seasons is beautiful, I am sure you would have a great stay. Some would say however that the very best hotel in Boston in XV Beacon - its a small boutique hotel with beautiful rooms and a reputation for great service.
The Westin Copley is very nice - we had a great view when we stayed there. And we just got back from a weekend stay at the Intercontinental which is nicer in every way than the Westin but the Westin has a better location.

I'm hardly an expert, not having stayed at many of those hotels, but I think the one of best hotels in Boston is the Boston Harbor Hotel. The view rooms are excellent, and the service is topnotch. the location is perhaps a bit more out of the way than the 4Seasons
I think you could also consider the Elliot Hotel. I've heard wonderful things about it, and the location is good as well.

The Fairmont Copley hands down. Spend a little more and stay on their third floor "hotel within a hotel" - their happy hour is amazing with drink and food - breakfast is spectacular and can be sent to your room and non-alcoholic drinks all day - and it's all included in your room charge.

If you are absolutely choosing between the Four Seasons and the Ritz near the Common, I would choose the Four Seasons - if you are between Four Seasons and the 'old Ritz' which is now the Taj, I'd pick the Four Seasons. Lovely staff, hotel, rooms, service, etc.
However, every other hotel mentioned as possibilities is wonderful, but I would choose Fairmont (the amenities as radiofanatic mentioned on that floor are superb) - but I am a bit partial to that hotel since we were married there - and we love the Eliot suites - lots of room, fabulous rooms and great location - personally the Westin would be my last choice of the ones mentioned,
