Tarrytown Hotels
A friend and I plan to spend two nights in Tarrytown visiting some of the nearby historic places. After some research, it appears that the Sheraton and Marriott might be our best hotel choices. Has anyone stayed there and would share comments?
We will also be looking for nice, upscale restaurants for dinner and I'd welcome ideas for those too.
Thanks in advance!

Both those hotels are good. The Marriott is older--but a good hotel, and it has an onsite Ruth's Chris which is really nice. The Sheraton is brand spanking new, so it's also very nice.
I think there is also a Courtyard by Marriott (still?), anyway your two choices are good ones, I've been to both for business functions, etc., and it's a nice Ruth's Chris. Santa Fe as someone suggested is a nice Mexican restaurant in Tarrytown. Also, for a really nice upscale restaurant, do check out Equus Restaurant, which is at The Castle at Tarrytown (a very upscale inn), the Restaurant is great with a view of the Hudson River and top notch food--I HIGHLY recommend it. www.castleonthehudson.com

Also good to note is that Equus does a tea everyday...
Another really good upscale restaurant is Blue Hill at Stone Barns, but they get booked up really quick (it's right there in Pocantico Hills on the Rockefeller Estate, where you'll be near anyway)...maybe they are more flexible for lunches.... you didn't really say when you were coming, I'm assuming it's this fall, or soon, so it could be hard to get into StoneBarns (www.bluehillstonebarns.com) but they have a fantastic seasonal fresh menu. It's even worth going to have a drink there, it's very pretty at night, they have nice little white lights, and the bar is very pretty, I've seen people eating in there on occassion.

I don't think Goldies is still open., there are nicer places down by the river, ie Sunset Cove.
There are 3 Marriots and the Sheraton just opened. YOu can stay at the Castle too. There is also a Hampton. They are near each other so that isn't a consideration.

Deb it still might be open but if so it mainly looks at the dreggs of the Chevrolet plant that was torn down and the other view is of the ugliest housing project in the world. That area is really undergoing a change.
Sunset cove is right on the river a short distance away (almost under the bridge)

As previously mentioned, there are three Marriotts, including the newly opened Springhill Suites, along with a Hampton Inn and a new Sheraton. In addition there are several others within a 5-mile radius.
As for restaurants, Chiboust on Main Street is one of the best in Tarrytown, along with the previously mentioned Sante Fe.
