Sante Fe Restaurants

Can anyone please recommend a few restaurants in Sante Fe. We are going the first week August and would like both upscale and moderate priced places. We are vegetarian so restaurants that have non-meat options are perfect including Italian, Southwest cuisine, and Mexican. If you wouldn't mind please indicate restaurants that may need reservations. Thanks so much.

Dara Thai Restaurant was excellent when I was there last, but it's been several years since I've been to Santa Fe.

Here's their website, if you're interested: http://www.dara-thai.com/

Cafe Oasis has a nice selection of organic and vegetarian entrees, moderately priced. It's a block or so from the state Capitol, so a little south of the Plaza area.

I haven't eaten at Cafe Pasqual, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Check out chowhound.com. There's a lot of info on Santa Fe restaurants. For casual, moderate places I can personally recommend Cafe Pasquals for breakfast and the Coyote Cantina is great for lunch, dinner or just drinks. It's the more casual, less pricey, fun, outdoor sister of Coyote Cafe with a great atmosphere and solid food. Harry's Roadhouse is another fun, casual spot with good food. For fine dining I've heard amazing things about Geronimo, but haven't had the pleasure. I was in love with SantaCafe years ago, but was disappointed on my last trip. Mark Miller is supposedly back in town this summer at Coyote Cafe so that should be a winner.

Plaza Cafe is right on the square and has some vegetarian dishes...great place on my never-miss list for inexpensive, casual food and a fun atmosphere.

Paul's is my favorite Santa Fe restaurant. Small and intimate; need reservations.

Another vote for Julian's. It's the best Italian food I've ever had, bar none. The staff are very pleasant, the service is great and the food is just wonderful.

Ooops, forgot reservation issue. El Shed, I don't think they take reservations, just stand in line (the earlier the better) Geronimos, definitly make a reservation. Santacafe is also wonderful for upscale. If you have a car, drive to Chimayo, and have lunch at the Inn, it's a lovely drive and a pretty restaurant.

We love Gabriels. If you're there in nice weather, it's lovely to sit on the patio. They make wonderful guacamole tableside.

We went to Gabriel's in July and weren't very impressed. The service was not good - it took forever to get drink refills. The food was fairly good, though.

We were there last week -- had a dynamite lunch at the courtyard cafe, La Plazuela, inside the beautiful La Fonda hotel right off the plaza. Sumptous neuvo mexicano.
