Tarrytown Hotels

A friend and I plan to spend two nights in Tarrytown visiting some of the nearby historic places. After some research, it appears that the Sheraton and Marriott might be our best hotel choices. Has anyone stayed there and would share comments?

We will also be looking for nice, upscale restaurants for dinner and I'd welcome ideas for those too.

Thanks in advance!

Goldie's by the Bridge was really nice [its been awhile since I ate there] and has a great sunset view. North Tarrytown/Sleep Hollow 226 Beekman Ave., (914) 631-9794.

About the hotels -- will you have a car? If so, there are quite a few places to stay on Rt 119 in the corridor from White Plains to Tarrytown. Courtyard and others. A full service Marriott.

Both those hotels are good. The Marriott is older--but a good hotel, and it has an onsite Ruth's Chris which is really nice. The Sheraton is brand spanking new, so it's also very nice.

I think there is also a Courtyard by Marriott (still?), anyway your two choices are good ones, I've been to both for business functions, etc., and it's a nice Ruth's Chris. Santa Fe as someone suggested is a nice Mexican restaurant in Tarrytown. Also, for a really nice upscale restaurant, do check out Equus Restaurant, which is at The Castle at Tarrytown (a very upscale inn), the Restaurant is great with a view of the Hudson River and top notch food--I HIGHLY recommend it. www.castleonthehudson.com

Also good to note is that Equus does a tea everyday...

Another really good upscale restaurant is Blue Hill at Stone Barns, but they get booked up really quick (it's right there in Pocantico Hills on the Rockefeller Estate, where you'll be near anyway)...maybe they are more flexible for lunches.... you didn't really say when you were coming, I'm assuming it's this fall, or soon, so it could be hard to get into StoneBarns (www.bluehillstonebarns.com) but they have a fantastic seasonal fresh menu. It's even worth going to have a drink there, it's very pretty at night, they have nice little white lights, and the bar is very pretty, I've seen people eating in there on occassion.

We stayed at the Marriott last July for a wedding and thought it was nice. We stayed in rooms that were newly remodeled - I would assume they have all been by now, but just ask.

Yes, we will have a car. Did anyone notice a strong chlorine odor at the Marriott? Supposely some rooms face it on lower floors and people were complaining.

Pool odors... I forgot to clarify that! :-)

I don't think Goldies is still open., there are nicer places down by the river, ie Sunset Cove.

There are 3 Marriots and the Sheraton just opened. YOu can stay at the Castle too. There is also a Hampton. They are near each other so that isn't a consideration.

Sorry if my info on Golides was out of date; I thought it was still open.

travelbug44 Sep 13th, 2007 06:48 AM

Deb it still might be open but if so it mainly looks at the dreggs of the Chevrolet plant that was torn down and the other view is of the ugliest housing project in the world. That area is really undergoing a change.

Sunset cove is right on the river a short distance away (almost under the bridge)

As previously mentioned, there are three Marriotts, including the newly opened Springhill Suites, along with a Hampton Inn and a new Sheraton. In addition there are several others within a 5-mile radius.
As for restaurants, Chiboust on Main Street is one of the best in Tarrytown, along with the previously mentioned Sante Fe.
