Just returned from Colony Beach Resort and we were very pleased. The suites (more like condos) were very nice and well appointed, fresh flowers etc. Restaurants were great and we really enjoyed Tastebuds Marketplace(made to order sandwiches, salads etc) The resort was especially nice as we were travelling with our 10 year old daughter and she had a ball!!The complimentary kids club was a nice break for my husband and I and she enjoyed it. The property was "village like" and we felt very comfortable letting her walk around, to Marketplace for ice cream etc, without us. Saw lots of kids on scooters and bikes. Only downside is there were lots of children when we were there (july) and if you are looking for a grown-ups only vacation you may want to look elsewhere, but if you have kids in tow there is alot to keep them happy and busy.

sn, why, when "amytonv" specified she wants a hotel right on the beach, would you recommend the Ritz? The Ritz is in downtown Sarasota on the mainland. It has no beach and the closest beach is reached by getting in your car, going thru downtown traffic to Ringling Causeway, then driving across that to Lido or Longobat! Sheesh.

we are booked for a vacation at the Longboat Key Club in Nov., supposedly is quite luxurious not only for couples, but also they seem to have a lot of activities for families...while we have'nt had any first hand experience, anyone that can add to this would be a welcome addition!!! Thanks

The Colony is very nice but aside from the restaurant I wouldn't describe it as luxury. It's more low key and nice and I prefer that to a Ritz but don't expect all the things you find at a Ritz. We were there a few years ago and would definitely go back, even if the tennis wasn't it was cracked up to be.
