family tennis resort suggestions

We are looking for a resort in a warm part of the country for early March with our kids, aged 14 and 11. My husband plays tennis and would like us all to have lessons during this vacation. Can anyone suggest a good resort hotel that could offer this along with either fun pools or a beach? We want it warm so I'm guessing desert of CA or AZ or Florida, we're coming down from MN.

Some to consider in Florida:

Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa. Well it's actually in Wesley Chapel but it's just north of Tampa.

Colony Beach Resort in Longboat Key.

I have stayed at both and really enjoyed them. My sister-in-law is the tennis girl and has been going to Saddlebrook for years for lessons. That said, my relatives from MN love the Colony because it is right on the beach.

Rancho Valencia was just named the number one tennis resort in tennis magazine:

Good for families, tennis nuts, luxury lovers and close to the beach!

I've stayed at Ponte Vedre, Saddlebrook, The Boulders, the Colony and the Longboat Key Club. The Colony was extremely tennis-oriented, but I thought it wasn't very pretty, and it looked a little run-down compared to the other places. Ponte Vedre, The Colony and the Longboat Key Club are all on the ocean. Saddlebrook has nice courts as well, but is inland... Out of all of them, my favorites are the Boulders and Longboat Key Club. The Boulders was exquisite (the grounds, accommodations, and the cuisine) and is not too far from Sedona for a fun side-trip. The Longboat Key Club is minutes away from St. Armand's Circle (a fun shopping & dining area), and the accommodations are very spacious and perfect for families. Have fun on your trip!

Shadow Mountain in Palm Desert.
However, March is high high season, so not sure about availability but it's worth a try.

La Quinta in the Palm Springs/La Quinta area.

I second Rancho Valenica in San Diego.

Also check out La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

I second the recommendation of La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. It's a very exclusive/expensive tennis club, but guests of the hotel have full access to all tennis facilities, and the members are very friendly. In March, however, I don't see you spending much time in the pool or in the ocean.

If you were going a little later in the year -- say early April -- I would recommend Hilton Head or Kiawah, but March is simply too cool.

I don't know your budget, but in March, my husband and I have gone down to Puerto Rico to get our winter tennis fix. The weather is guaranteed to be warm. El Conquistador has a nice facility (clay courts). Also, the Ritz Carlton in Grand Cayman has a Bolletieri tennis facility which is small, but excellent.

The Boca Raton resort and club has a great tennis facility that has received many awards. With 3 older kids you could get a 2 bedroom suite at the bungalows section of the resort, which is separate from the main hotel. The hotel works with a very good shuttle system between the bungalows, the main hotel and the beach club. The beach club is part of teh hotel that is directly on the beach if you want that, with 3 gorgeous pools. You could stay there and shuttle to the main hotel for tennis.
