car rental in Charleston
Thinking of renting a car to take to Savannah. I've noticed there is a Budget location at 390 Meeting Street. Could someone fill me in on whether this is in the historic district and easy to get to if we are staying there? Thanks.

Would you have any idea about the amtrak station in Charleston and how far that is too the historic district?
We will probably arrive by amtrak from DC and then drive to Savannah. Any idea what a taxi would cost from the Amtrak Staton to the historic district--FQI?

No, I'm afraid the train station is in North Charleston, which is actually another city entirely. (it should have a different name, as they are nothing alike.) Anyhoo, you would have to catch a bus or cab from the train to downtown Charleston.

jwr - re: North Charleston
That's funny. When my husband and I were first going out, it took me a couple of years to get him to go to Charleston for a weekend. He kept telling me he had been to Charleston right after he moved here from Wisconsin for a weightlifting competition, and it was an ugly city w/ no decent restaurants and he couldn't understand why I wanted to go.
We did eventually figure out that he had been in NORTH Chareslton.
