Aussie tourists-Savannah or Charleston?

We cant decide which city to visit, Savannah or Charleston? I love old historical towns and these both seem similar. Any opinions?

Charleston is much nicer in my opinion & offers more diversity than Savannah. Depending on the time your have you could probably visit both, they are not far apart. I live in Charlotte & visit Charleston regularly, the food is also much better there I think.

Definitely Charleston, and don't forget the plantations.

Both are lovely cities and not far enough apart to miss either - about 2 hours drive between them if I recall correctly.

Charleston has much more to see and do. Savannah is good for about a day tops.

Charleston and Savannah are both great cities. I'd visit both of them since they are so close.

Savannah may be best because the historic district gives almost an unbroken feel of gracious gardens and old architecture - unique in the US. None of it's attractions are particularly dazzling except maybe for a civil war fort that still has cannon ball damage.

Charleston on the other hand is a congested mishmash of the old, new, and the new pretending to be old, which can kind of break the spell for me. Charleston's attractions are more impressive individually. But in Savannah, if you walk instead of drive, and stick to the roads that intercept the grid of parks - magic!

Charleston! Much more of what you're seeking, and a wealth of great little restaurants.
