Thoughts on these apts in the 4th?
Hi Everyone,
My wife and will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary this October in Paris. I have found these 2 aprtments in the 4th for around 200E from a company called parler paris. Any thoughts? Any experience with this company? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

No experience with the company or the apartments but I like both locations very much.
The first is in a slightly quieter area and close to the Sully-Morland metro stop (which is small and not busy), also closer to the river, and very near two of my favorite places to eat- Miss Manon (sandwiches, salads, breads, and pastries, all to go or casual eat in) and L'Enoteca (lovely, with great Italian food and wine).
Both apartments look terrific, so I think you will be happy with either.

To me, I like the Charles location closer to the river(we usually stay on Ile St. Louis), but I like the look of the Roi better.
Whichever you choose, have a wonderful anniversary in Paris.
Just to add---one of our favorite restaurants--L'Ilot Vache on Rue St. Louis en Ile.

A new (and significantly less expensive contender has been added to the list. Any thoughts?

I like the location of both the parlerparis apt. but I definitely do not like the 1000 Euro security deposit. That's why I like Vacation in Paris apts, no security deposit, you purchase an insurance policy against breakage, etc for around 25 US dollars!

Yes, the VRBO option is very small. Why bother with an apartment that's so small? Of course, space is one of the big reasons we like apartments. We rent one-bedrooms; my husband wakes up early and goes into the other room, I sleep in. Vice versa at night.
Another reason I like apartments is no maid is knocking on your door, no hours for breakfast, more privacy. (My husband can go out for fresh baked croissants....)
You seem to be looking for luxury in a very central location. Have you looked at the Paris Perfect website?

Thanks for all the repsonses. I realize that the VRBO option is small, but seems to be larger and nicer than hotel rooms of comparable cost. I also think the location is good. Since we are looking for only 4 nights, I think Paris Perfect isn't an option - they have a 1-week minimum. I've checked with Vacation in Paris. Unfortunately, on relatively short notice (we're going in early October), they have limited availability in the locations I was looking for (4th, 5th, 6th).

Vacation in Paris does have a security deposit, but it is fairly low ($150). They even refer to it as a "key/security deposit". And they keep it as a deposit until after you leave and return it later. Even if it were for the keys alone (which doesn't matter what it is for, they keep it and it is a deposit), it would still be a security deposit for the keys. HOwever, even they say to get it back you have to return the keys and they will inspect the apt., so it clearly is a security deposit.
I agree 1000 euro is a stiff security deposit, at least if you are renting for a week or less. It wouldn't be so bad for longer. I have heard of that company, though, it isn't some fly-by-night organization, and has been around a while and the owner does a lot of stuff and is published in various places. Now I know that doesn't necessarily mean her apartment business can't cause hassles, though.
To be honest, I like the second one better but partly that's my taste (I don't like modern that much). I am not crazy about this agency's presentation (aside from the sec deposit), although you can pay by CC which is nice. For example, I want facts not a bunch of fancy prose. Now maybe it is in there somewhere, but I can't find mentioned the actual size of those apts in square meters. I guess the second one is pretty small as they comment on that.
I wouldn't even consider that last one. I'd just stay in a nice hotel if I were going to take something that small -- now I know you may think, but this has more, like a kitchenette. True, if that's the main reason you want one, it would be better than a hotel but not enough to compensate for the more trouble you have with an apt (prepayment, deposits, can't cancel, etc). However, I would not rent a ground floor apt. ever so that would rule it out for me. The furniture looks cheap, which reflects something about the owner (ie, the table and chairs look plastic).
There isn't really any place to even sit in that place, is there, other than the bed? Sure, those plastic chairs at the table, but I mean to relax. I think this might be an ok budget choice for someone who doesn't plan to be in it much, but again, what's the point. It dosn't say 10th anniversary to me. It is cheap because you get what you pay for.

wkwcbs, Hi. My husband and I rented this apartment in October 2006 (our anniversary is 10.05) and while it was nice there were some drawbacks, it is very small, only one room with a queen sized bed and if I remember correctly one small chair, there is a tiny table with 2 chairs and the very tight kitchen, all are basically in the same room, of course the toilet & shower are separate. If you want to read or watch TV you must use the bed. The location is on the ground floor, the window opens onto the street (does have a barred entry over the window) and there was quite a bit of street noise at night, it runs the same direction as a larger street and it seems people use this as a cut-thru street, especially motorcycles. There are a few neighborhood cafes, a nice bakery and laundromat nearby, it is also close to Place des Vosges where you'll fine many dining places. When we were there Chemin Vert metro was out of order but it was a long time ago so I'm sure it's open again, the next closest metro was Bastille but very convenient to many directions. I don't mean to be negative, this was a very nice efficiency apartment, the linens were very nice and it had everything you could need but as the owners say it's basically a luxury hotel room with perks. We liked the location as we enjoy the Bastille area. I may be wrong but I think the owners also have a one bedroom in the same building a floor or two up, maybe that would be worth looking into. If an efficiency doesn't bother you then yes, this is a very nice apartment. I've been to Paris many times in the past 10 years and usually stay in apartments, have used Vacation in Paris at least 6 times and VRBO twice. Congratulations on your upcoming anniversary.

Christina you are wrong about VIP. It is a key deposit and as soon as you return the key it is refunded. I use Paypal and they return the deposit via paypal. The inspection of the apt has nothing to do with the deposit. You buy a $30.00 insurance policy when renting and it covers all damages to the apt.
It doesn';t sound like you have any experience renting from them .
