I was wondering the same thing. We'll be coming from the Amalfi coast to Rome in early November, and are contemplating spending the last night in Rome by the airport.

We stayed at the Hilton several times the last one in April on our way back from Sicily.
The best thing I can say about the Hilton is the convenience. You wake up and walk to your gate. The service is crap, the restaurant is horrible and the shuttle service bus only seats 50 and runs every two hours. If the hotel is slammed expect to wait for check in and the restaurant. They seem never to have enough staff the handle large number of guests.
So if there is more than 50 people waiting to go into Rome or return to the hotel, you are SOL.
Our check in took way too long, the bus leaves every other hour so if you don't time it right you miss it.
We tried using the shuttle to go back to the hotel on a rainy day. Standing room only on the bus and the driver refused to move unless the standees got off the bus. The ones who didn't make it had to wait two hours for the next one and you weren't guaranteed a seat.
As long as you don't expect much and want the convience, go for it. The rooms are adequate. At least you know what you are getting with Hilton.
The best rate I got was on line.

Gail,
Thank you for the info; it is very helpful; we plan on staying there on our last night in Italy, and since our flight is at 9:30am, we are staying there just for the convenience of not having to worry about getting to the airport; so, we can just relax on our last night there, and hopefully get a good night's sleep before coming back to reality.
Thanks again for your reply.

Yes I am still around. I use the Hilton only if I am coming back into town from a wonderful trip in some other city and have an early flight out. When I stay in Rome I take an early taxi to the airport.
Like I wrote before I like to stay late at my other place and then take my time getting to the Hilton late, then either eat at the bar area or snack in my room. It isn't worth it to me to go back into Rome just for one night and a late one at that. I see no point in cutting my other stay short just to get back to Rome.
I have worked with the Hilton people on the phone and on the internet, had a local Italian travel agent pull strings and have gotten good prices with buffet breakfast included. (For instance when I was staying in Sorrento I went to the travel agency on the Corso and the nice woman made my reservations for me)
I just like to wake up, eat at the hotel and walk across to the airport. So far I guess I have been lucky with good service and not too long check in lines.
The last time I did this I paid about 110euro for the room which included buffet breakfast.
IMHO, the Hilton isn't bad it is just another Hilton. Good luck.
