Paris to Rome or Rome to Paris

We will be traveling to Paris and Rome in October. Would it be better to go to Rome first and then to Paris or vice versa? I can't decide. We are thinking of possibly adding the Amalfi Coast, but don't really want to rent a car. Any suggestions?

Hi

I can't see that the order of visiting the cities matters much. They are both amazing cities and there is lots and lots to see and do in both places. My wife and I went to Paris in April (check out my trip report on http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm ) and Rome in July last year ( http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm ). Maybe you can find some useful info in the trip reports Have a great trip.

Given the time of year, I'd opt for Paris first then Rome, only because it is further south so the weather ought to be better that way round.

I'd do Rome before Paris. I find Rome to be hectic, so Paris is relaxing by comparison.

I agree that Paris will be easier after Rome - but as far as the weather, that's so totally up in the air, it's not really a factor.

I usually follow the weather - trying to avoid the worst of the heat (or cold in midwinter) unless there's a specific reason to do otherwise. So - I would start in Paris and head south.

Personally, I'm with missypie and WK. I think Rome is much more hectic and would be easier to visit at the beginning of the trip when you are feeling fresher, and leaveParis for last. I also agree that the weather is unpredictable enough, that it shouldn't be the determining factor in your trip. I really enjoyed Rome, but wouldn't want to end my trip there.

The weather in October is NOT going to be a factor.

Check to see if there are any special events / exhibitions on in Paris / Rome during your trip & decide which to do first based on that.
