Probably Europa -- slightly more convenient from Plaza delSol. Great facility and very reasonable two years ago. The rooms to the front with small balconies overlooking the plaza are great EXCEPT they are noise until the city settles down around 2AM.

I stayed at the Mario on Campomanes which is a Room Mate Hotel. It is located at the Opera metro stop, a few minutes walk from Palacio Real and Plaza Mayor. I believe it was about 90 Euros a night and included a nice breakfast.

We stayed 1 night at the Hotel Plaza Mayor this summer and I would feel comfortable there as a young woman. The young man at the front desk was extremely professional and very helpful to us in making dinner and show arrangements. It had a nice, low-key vibe.
I don't know Madrid at all, but the location was good for us. We went to Botin for dinner (liked it, but would try somewhere else next time) and Carboneras Flamenco for a show. It was a short walk and even at midnight I felt safe, walking around as a 43 year old woman with a 13 year old and an 11 year old.

I don't think fifteen years old girls are allowed to be alone at a hotel LOL
