I am flying through Heathrow arriving at 10:30 pm with my next flight at 6:45 am the next morning. Is it reasonable to just sit around at the airport or does the airport close up and I need to get a hotel.

We, too, had long layovers in both Heathrow and Gatwick last year. In both airports, we used the Servisair facilities. They are lounges that you pay to use with complimentary soft drinks, wine, munchies, newspapers, TV's, etc. I don't remember the exact cost, but it seems it was in the neighborhood of $50 for both my husband and I. It was money well spent for our 6-hour+ layovers. Their website is www.servisair.com.

Oklahoma I had never heard of Serviair. Just pulled up their site..it looks great..and 12 dollars per person sounds good.

There are also some very good hotels in the area that have super rates. We recently stayed at the Novotel for 46 dollars and that included breakfast.

Will have to ask OH tonight. We spent our first overnight there at 69 dollars..that was pretty good too. The really cheap rate was a weekend rate. We have used the hotel often. Rooms are clean and have a sofa, which I really like. Will get back to you.

Servisair lounges (and - I think - the KLM one at T4, which I believe is also accesible for cash) close about the same time Sierra Joe's arriving and re-open pretty much as his ongoing flight is - or should be - taking off. And there are no lounges available for cash if you're connecting with a domestic or Irish flight.

about servisair.. got excited about this option until i saw they only allow you to stay for 2 hours! some lounges 3!

As flanneruk says - I don't think the lounges are open over night. They are a great option for a longish layover during normal operational hours.

But for an 11:30p.m. to 4:30ish a.m. stay, you would be better off getting a hotel room, unless you just want to sit around a basically deserted terminal.

What an awful connection! I would definitely look into the cost of a hotel room. I'm pretty sure you can sit around the airport that entire time, it wouldn't close up or anything, but I sure wouldn't want to. Especially at night when all the shops and restaurants close up, again I assume. ~3 hours about max's out my patience at Heathrow.
