have not gone inside but it is out of the center of town and caters to large tour groups. having said that, I have always found Ibis properties to be clean and comfortable without much charm--think Motel 6.

I agree w/payant. Although I have not stayed in that particular location most of the properties are sterile w/no frills & not always in the best locations. Try Best Western, they have many properties in Europe & I have had a lot of success & been very happy @ their properties. You can also reserve online w/no upfront fees.

We did not stay there but booked a tour which picked up a couple who was staying there, and they were pleased with it. Personally, I did not like the location. We stayed at the Maxmillian and were very pleased with the hotel and the location. You may want to take a look at their web page.

I haven't stayed there but have been in the Karlin area and saw it when I went by on the tram. It's your basic modern budget chain hotel. The area isn't as central as some people would like for tourism -- it looked okay to me passing through, but I remember seeing someone say it was a dicier part of town on here (I think that was Jason Holt who has a webpage on Prague and lives there, I guess). I don't know if it has a higher crime rate or not.

However, aside from these points, I would not stay there because Karlin was severely damaged in the floods of last August and there is a lot of demolition, reconstruction, cleaning up, etc, going on there. From what I've read, that area was one of the worst hit and it's not back to "normal" as much as some other parts of Prague.

There are currently 2 Ibis hotels in Prague. The Ibis Karlin (which I do not recommend) and the Ibis Centre. The Ibis centre is new and shares the same building with the Novotel. Like all Ibis and Novotel it has styleless comfortable square rooms. It is located near a major road junction about 100m from the IP Pavlova metro but it is in a side street so it's quiet. If you want this type of hotel, search for the new Mercure hotel in Na Prikope (better location).

Lots of other info at http://www.jasoncholt.com/prague

Jason

Jason
