Help Needed For Prague Hotel
Hi all,
I am planning a trip to Prague in September and wanted to get some advice on hotels to stay at in Prague. Can anyone give me some recommendations on hotels in the central area that are not over $200. Or is that possible with the current exchange!! Thanks to all!

I guess I'm always baffled by the need to stay at the center of Prague. It's noisy, and unless you're into nightlife, it puts you into the middle of tourist haven and expensive restaurants.
If it were me, I'd stay in a place like this: <http://hotel-cz.moonface.cz/accommod...-Grand.htm> - it's 30 minutes from Prague Hlavni (main train station) costs about US$60 a night and has really good food. Never stayed there, but they're good people. And you're much more likely to have a 'real' experience as it's in a town of about 4,000 people.

It shouldn't really be all that baffling. Many people want easy access to the major sights--especially if their time is limited. And, while much of downtown Prague is noisy and expensive, there are areas that are not. At least our hotel wasn't noisy, and we found many places to eat that were not expensive, at least by our usual dining standards.

I stayed at the Hotel K+K Central in Prague in Nov 2007 and really liked it. The "early booker" rate was under US$200 including buffet breakfast and high-speed internet access. The central location (near the Powder Gate) was perfect and the room/lobby was clean, well-designed and very comfortable. I didn't have any special requests but the service was helpful and efficient. There was a post on this board from a traveler who had her purse stolen in the breakfast area so I'd suggest being careful though that probably applies anywhere...

We stayed at this place in the middle of the Old Town and liked it. It seems to be in your price range.

We stayed in 2 different rooms and they were fine, one was a bit smaller, both had newish bathrooms. Breakfast was provided in the restaurant. It's very central, which we really liked, and we didn't find it noisy as the rooms are set back from the street, off an inner courtyard.

Thanks to all for you help and suggestions. I found a room at the U Tri Bubna which seems just perfect. I realize that being outside the "hubub" has it's appeal but as a solo traveler on this part of my trip I really prefer being in a spot where I can just walk everywhere. Thanks again!! Charlie

Vinohradi is a nice residencial area of Prague with some interesting architecture but less central than Old Town, Josehov or Mala Strana. I'm sure the place is well served by tram (or bus?) but just to be clear, as I presume this is OP's first time in Prague.
And as somebody said above, staying in the center of Prague does not necessarily mean noisy neighbours and expensive restaurants. I have stayed so far at Hotel Roma4*, Residence Mala Strana3* (both in Mala Strana), Residence Bene2* (Josehov) altogether 7 times in last 2 years. I suffered no noise and dined nice and light (my usual)for about €20 or less. I don't go to fancy restarants. It's nice to be able to walk to the empty Charles' Bridge early in the mornig in less than 10 minutes.

Hotel Kampa Garden is on Kampa Island, just under the Charles bridge so it is quite central. Kampa Island though is quiet so you have the advantage of a peaceful oasis that still in the middle of things. It is next to a park and has great views of the city. The price is well within your budget. The bridge is accessed by stairs about 100 yards or so from the hotel. The island has a nice square of its own and good restaurants.

We travel a lot and I always look for hotel advice first on tripadvisor.com There you get current, objective reviews from people who have stayed at the hotel and the list of hotels is graded based on these reviews. It's a great site for chosing a hotel.
BTW I booked 4 nights in Prague in December based on a choice made from tripadvisor.com

We just stayed several nights in the Hotel Rott - just off the main square in Old Town. Not noisy. Quite pleasant. Very convenient. Altho, it was over $200 for the rooms. We walked everywhere (helped to burn off some of those extra "beer" calories!).
We always try to stay near the center of town - preferring to spend the extra money for the convenience of not having to take buses or trains or metros to get to the major sites.
Since we travel with tour kids - nightlife is not something we worry about. We don't eat in the heavy tourist spots (like restaurants on the main squares), but we eat what appeals to us and really don't stress about the cost too much.
