Has anyone ever tried those half socks?

I know the ol' foot questions are beat to death here, but I am really wondering if these socks, and others like them, are any good. I found these socks by Smartwool, other companies make them too, and was wondering if they stay put. For the first time we are traveling in warm weather to Italy, and I am concerned about keeping my feet comfortable. I want to wear a small sock under my shoes, but I don't want them to show. Here is a link for the socks I found.

I've worn plenty of socks that only go to about the ankle, that is pretty common nowadays. But I have never worn that particular brand. They always show a little, if they are socks, but not too much. I wouldn't wear them with dress shoes, of course, but then you are getting into the Peds or "footies" which have been around a bazillion years. I do wear those, also, in flats in the summer. I'm not one that ever likes to go barefoot in a shoe, it is too uncomfortable for me (except sandals). Those ones you are looking at actually look like the Peds/footies, some of which are cotton, some are nylon. Those look like the cotton ones.

MIne stay put, at least when they are in good condition and new.

Haven't worn these exact socks, but the socks I do wear when touring are from Smartwool and they work great in both hot and cold weather. Plus the "padding" helps keep my feet happy!

What shoes are you wearing with them? I wear half socks all the time and have no problems.

I would be less concerned with weather your socks show than whether your feet are comfortable. Besides, I see lots of women wearing casual sneakers and ankle socks here, and the socks show. In fact, I have seen women in Italy wearing strappy high heels with cuffed ankle socks, often in hot colors, with capris or jeans.

Dress with nerve and you can look like a fashionista. Anyway, you really don't want blisters so do what you need to do.

I have some Smartwool socks that I wear for golf that are just below the ankle (a little higher than the ones you are looking at). They are hands down the best socks I have ever bought. I never thought that wool socks could be so cool and comfortable. I am totally hooked on Smartwool.

I'm another great fan of Smartwool socks - love them! Just make sure the shoes you wear fit properly when you have the socks on.

Thanks for the feedback. I am obsessing over keeping my feet comfortable. I posted the Smartwool link because that is all I ever wear. I discovered them back in '01 before a trip to Italy and have been hooked ever since. I wear Dansko's all year round and the Smartwool work out perfect with the Danskos.

I do have a shoe dilemma with this upcoming trip because I do not want to wear my Dansko sandals, or any sandals, but I want something that will still be stylish with capris, and most importantly comfortable! Any suggestions are welcome.

I am leaving for Rome in about two weeks. I just bought some of the canvas Ecco shoes that have a flexible heel. You can wear them with or without socks. They are more like shoes than sneakers and are really comfortable. My podiatrist really likes Ecco shoes, too. I bought mine in beige and they come in some other colors.

i dont like the nylon sockettes that are supposed to look discreet
they scream at me

but i dont mind the little sport socks that you wear with sport shoes

mind you im into wearing hikers now so i wear the cushion sole diabetes socks that dont cut off the circulation at the ankle
what a difference it makes to my day
i didnt even realise until i started trialling them for our next trip
no more ridges round my ankes
