What socks to wear?

I apologize in advance to those bored by shoe questions but I am really trying to figure out what to bring. If I don't bring my white tennies, but bring dark walking shoes, what color socks should I wear with skirts? I don't particularly want to wear stockings as it will be hot. Thanks!

Sorry, but you can't wear ankle socks with skirts, it is just not allowed. You will have to wear the little peds that are low cut and won't show outside of your shoes. You can wear thicker cotton socks that are very low cut also, but no cuffed socks with skirts, unless you are 12 years old and are wearing a pleated skirt.

OK - that makes sense. I couldn't quite picture the look myself. At home, if I wear skirts I wear dressier shoes, but I'm trying to figure out a "walking shoe" and casual, but appropriate, travel wadrobe.

I know, Kathryn, it is a problem I have too, but last year I wore the short little peds from Target and they worked out fine.
It is funny but one year I thought I could get by with socks and walking shoes and skirts, until I caught sight of myself in a reflection, egads!
Have a great trip.

Kathryn: LOOK at yourself in the mirror! If you like what you see and what you're wearing , then others will probably also and go for it.
I see the self-appointed "fashion police" that hang out here have already told you what the "rules" are...get real!

Go barefooted, or at least sockless. That solves the problem. Less to carry, less to wash.
Wellies solve several problems:

1: dog poop between the toes in Paris.

2: hiding unfashionable socks (especially those with cartoon characters on them)

3: Aqua alta

4: Must I change from walking shoes to pumps for dinner? (ps. I have always found high heels awkward, but found waiters to be more attentive)

5: Walking around Avesbury.

6: Fitting in with the locals in truly rural England.

Any more?

I'm sorry, but does anyone else find this going a little far in the 'what to wear on the feet' catagory?
There are sneaker threads, sock threads, trainers threads, I just don't understand the sudden confusion everyone is having about what to wear on their feet!
Once they figure out what shoe to put on, doesn't 'to sock' or 'not to sock' sort of naturally come after? without the need for asking advice on it?
I really don't mean to be bashing anyone-since I have been reading/posting on Fodors, I have never seen so many shoe and now SOCK! threads.
Without turning this into something unpleasant, does anyone else notice this being out of the ordinary?

Hey Kate2

Some people worry about anything and everything. They are either first time travelers or they are having fun with the shoe and sock thing, either way doesn't matter.

See ya later
