There are so many of these dress for Europe threads that I usually pass them up--but my husband reminded me the other day of an experience we had when walking the Cinque Terre on a Sunday in June about 5 years ago. I'm sure I posted about it a long time ago.
We met a middle aged Italian couple going in the same direction on the trail--she in a shirtwaist dress and heeled sandals (I think he had a jacket, no tie). We'd pass them as they rested, then they'd pass us as we stopped to take photos and enjoy the view, etc., using our limited Italian for greeting, agreeing on the beauty, etc.
As the afternoon got hot, first she unbuttoned the top of her dress. The last time we passed them she had opened her dress and dropped it to her waist, but still had her slip on up top. We agreed we really didn't want to let them catch up to us again.
We did encounter several more women in heels along the way.

Kay2,
Very funny...and to me it shows a point...some people would say, but they were such better dressed than you were....but who was more appropriately dressed? Just because someone is wearing high heels and a dress doesn't make them better dressed, sometimes...well to be blunt...it makes them a little stupid.
