I know that your knees and shoulders have to be covered...are jeans acceptable in every church in Rome?
I wish I would have found this site earlier...I'm leaving tomorrow!
Stopping in the French Alps for 5 days before going to Rome. There is a big temperature difference....55 in Chamonix, 80 in Rome. What to bring?

Jeans are acceptable, but I can't imagine you'd want to wear jeans in 80+ degree (and possibly high humidity) weather.

Hi goldhair, do you have any lighter weight pants or capris? Jeans are fine as far as clothing requirements but if it is hot and humid jeans can be miserable and I haven't checked out the projected Rome weather report. Even a skirt or two covering your knees (assuming you are a female) might be good to put into your suitcase. Or a couple of dresses? If you have nothing but jeans you can no doubt find a couple of light weight/hot weather clothing when arriving in Rome. Have fun, it will all work out!

I would take a skirt. It'll be fine to wear one, just as long as it's not super-short. Barring that, roll a pair of lightweight khakis up with your jeans and wear those.

It can be if the humidity is quite high, J62. And of course it depends on where the OP is from as if one is from a hot and humid area it is easier to deal with than if one is from a more coolish and low humidty area.

It often feels much hotter due to the humidity. By next weekend it is supposed to be in the mid 80's (though it could be anything)

I sure know I wouldn't be wearing jeans in Rome in those sorts of temps. A light/gauzy skirt or capris would be my choice.

I would never pack just one type of clothing when on a trip. A pair of jeans, fine. A lightweight pair of pants or two fine, a pair of capris, fine. A skirt or two (that could be worn with a couple of tops to the pants) fine or a dress or two that often does not take up much room in a suitcase.

Anyway, you are probably now packed, goldhair. Have a beautiful trip and if you find that the jeans you are taking are misearble in Rome again you can find a few skirts or whatever to buy to help you deal with the high heat and humidity.

I would never travel anywhere without at least a skirt or two and a lightweight dress for temps like that. I can hardly stand to wear jeans unless it's cool to cold weather, and frankly would feel embarrassed to be in an Italian church wearing them, though it's not unacceptable. But mostly I'd just feel stifled in jeans in the kind of temperatures you find in Rome this time of year.

Jeans are the worst traveling pants to use unless you are going to a ranch or a vacation filled with outdoor activities. Jeans are heavy to pack, take forever to dry, no matter what you can really dress up jeans subtantially, and most people over 35 y/o look frumpy on jeans. My humble opinion. I never leave home for Europe travel without dockers, at least one skirt, and a black jacket.

While I wouldn't necessarily wear jeans in Rome, especially when it could be hot, I beg to differ about looking frumpy. Life does continue after 35, sometimes stylishly too - even in jeans.

I also disagree about looking frumpy in jeans. I'm way past 35 and think jeans can be very sexy. I just don't choose to travel in them, except occasionally, and then I choose lightweight ones and don't tend to wear them for city sightseeing but rather for country activities in cool weather.

I'm in my mid 50's, and wear my jeans all the time. They're a very dark denim, trouser cut, and with a fitted short blazer or leather jacket they look great, and dressy. I wear them here at home with high heeled boots and travelling with Ecco walking shoes or sandals. Now if they were Mom jeans - that would be another story!

Well hopefully you're on your way by now(!) but I agree with those saying jeans would be WAY too hot for me for sight-seeing in Rome in 80 degree weather. Take some lightweight pants, linen capris, or a decent length skirt along too.

Yes, if it's warm, you'll want to wash out those jeans. That's difficult to do by hand. And even if you go to a laundromat or have a washer/dryer, jeans take forever to dry in European dryers.

I'm 35X2 and always take jeans - lighter-weight dressier trouser
jeans plus the denim du jour - this year it's slim legs (skinny
legs ARE for the under 35 - years or pounds). I think non-baggy
dark wash can be dressed up or down without looking like....well..
