Cheapie Cheapie Cheapie hotel around Nice?
Does anyone know of a super cheap hotel in the Nice area? The ones I have found all seem to be booked- I need 2 rooms for one night for the night of Aug 11..any ideas? There are a ton of little towns around there and I cant find a search to look through hotels in the vicinity of Nice- they are all city specific..thanks!

what's super cheap mean?
A few years ago i stayed in the Hotel Modern right opposite the station for about 30 euros a night - but it was a fading old hotel run by an old guy and not up to snuff for most - including me after i saw the bugs running around. But could still be there.

I just did a search on venere and came up with 10 hotels under 75 euros available for that date. Maybe that will help. Here is the link: http://tinyurl.com/2v62f2

What's your idea of cheap? Laterooms sounds good, but I don't think they have rock bottom hotels on there.
Here is a French website I like that lists most hotels in every city in France, and has maps so you can list them for the place you want.
If you go on there, you can list all the towns in that region (Alpes-Maritime), and they show you the distance to Nice. If you are only there one night, I don't think that would be necessary or that useful, if you have to get back to Nice. Nice has lots of very cheap motels.
Just go in there to the Nice section (first selection Provence area, then Alpes and Maritimes department) and click on 2* hotels and you can find several at the rate of 35-40 euro a nice for a double room.

Since you say cheapie cheapie, you don't expect much from the hotel, I suppose. Then I can recommend 1* Hotel Acanthe that I found on eurocheapo.com. I stayed there 2 years in a row, 2005 & 2006 at their most expensive "Rontonde" room on 5th floor, that was like €55. The great things about this hotel were the view from the room (Albert 1er Park, some old town roofs), very bright room thanks to its shape (rotonde), the old town is just across the above mentioned garden, and 2 minute walk to the bus terminal (very convenient since I usually do a few bus trips to nearby towns outside Nice such as Villefranche-sur-Mer, Eze, St.Paul-de-Vence). Take a look at the following site. You can see the photos of my Rotonde room from outside and the park in front the hotel. If you don't need one of the Rotonde rooms, the rates should be around €40/45. It has an elevator.

Sorry I meant accor hotels, they are as you probably know one of the largest hotels groups in the world.
In Nice they have serveral hotels, I would go for an Ibis, well you will see.....the best bet is to make a reservation in their own web site. Usually also they offer for a few euros very good buffet breakfasts.

Echoing what Graziella5b said - have a look on www.accorhotels.com (booking engine for all chains of hotels in that group, from high to low-end) and see if any hotels have availability for your dates. I had a look on the site and there are rooms at the EtapHotel (basic but clean and safe) for 47 euros.
You can also check on the Campanile group website, which is a similar group of cheap to mid-range hotel chains: http://www.campanile.com/en/hotels/index.aspx.
(If you do a search for available hotels, click on "All brands" when you get to the results page and all the available hotels in the group (Campanile, Kyriad and Première Classe) will be displayed.
