Hi B,
From the CDG airport website:
When you get off the plane, follow the "Correspondance Transfer" signs up to the Transfer desk to check your departure terminal.
If your connection is at Terminal 1:
- International flight:
Take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (within customs zone) situated close to the Transfer desk
- Domestic flight or Schengen:
Follow the "Sortie - Exit" signs and proceed to police controls
Then take the Aéroports de Paris shuttle bus (line 1) to Terminal 1

You've received the info you need. But it is quite likely you will only have the wife and 12 yo to worry about. Most of the time (but not always - especially if one flight is on a budget airline) you can check your luggage through.

Those navettes can be very crowded, but I don't think a taxi is going to lose its place in the queue to take you around to another terminal. I didn't know CDG didn't allow it, as Francophile says, but doesn't surprise me. I don't think they'd do it anyway, though.
