Best Way from FCO to my Hotel?

My hotel is near the Spanish Steps. What is the best way to get there from the airport? I will have one medium size suitecase and one smaller carryone (which is really a rolling laptop case, but holds a ton of stuff). I'm afraid that I'll get lost if I try to take a train. If I do take a train to termini, how do I get a taxi from the station to my hotel? I do I lesson the chances of being taken for a ride by a taxi driver (you know what I mean )

Good evening. MizzEve
Upon arrival at Fiumicino and thru customs follow the arrows to the taxi
stand. do not accept any offers from
those who you will meet enroute. At the taxi stand, use only a medalioned metered taxi..
inquire the price with the driver and
then agree if its feels proper. If not
try the next taxi.. It should be about
40-45 usd...fares used to be calculated
by reading on meter plus 14,000 ITL +
tip about 10%.. after less than 30 mins you will be at your hotel.
If you take the train you will detrain
at Termini and then go to the taxi stand
to wait in line for taxi to take to your
hotel. Rome cabbies sometimes can come
up with some little extras...If not and
if time permits, contact your hotel by
e mail and have them make reservations
for a limo to meet you at the airport.
It is NOT much more than a taxi and it
is a pleasure to see your name on the
little white card exiting the customs.

Get in touch with your hotel, have them set up an airport pickup for you. they will contact a driver who will have a sign and he will load your bags and take you to the hotel. This will cost about $75.00 and its well worth it (includes tip) make arrangements for same driver to take you back to airport.
I always do it this way. No aggrivation.

If your hotel charges 75 E you are being ripped off! If you want comfort and convenience...use limoservicerome!

If not take the train...and get an AUTHORIZED taxi at the station!

We used a private transfer service which
was great...didn't have to deal with anything after the long flight and got dropped off right at our hotel door. Used them for the return too. Unfortantely I can't find their web address. Have fun and enjoy!! We loved Rome.

MizzEve, the 45 euro rate sounds good. Last October, we took a cab from our hotel (near Sp. Steps) to the train station. The driver asked if we were going on to the airport and, if so, would we like him to drive us there instead of the train station. We declined, saying we'd spent all of our holiday money already, but he persisted. He first said he'd charge 50 euros, then 45 euros, then as we approached the train station he offered 40 euros! We started to re-think our decision but ended up taking the train anyway... What can I say? I'm of Scottish descent, and I love trains!

Anybody wanting to share a limo from FCO on 27 Sept.? We're (two of us) heading to Piazza Farnese (near Piazza Navona). Our flight arrives at 7:50 a.m.

You could take the train to the main subway station(staione termini) then goout and take a cab the rest of the way. My sisters and I stayed at the Internazionale, on Via Sistina, by the Spanish steps and we actually rode the subway to the Spagna stop, but...if you have a lot of luggage then its a drag because its a lot of walking down into the subway and when we got out we had to ask someone which way to go to find the street! If you're up for a challenge then you can do it and it helps to jump right in if you plan on taking the metro while in Rome!
