Has anyone used Auto France ?
After reading their purchase order and paperwork I find that it differs from what their web site states.
Would really appreciate any help or experience with their program. (lease/rental cars)
Thanks.

We've now done it three times for periods of one month, two months, and about 6 weeks. We loved the program and never had the slightest problem with them. What is different from their website? Do you have specific questions I can answer?

In reading the fine print it states that the purchaser shall be required to to follow all scheduled maintenance and servicing required and that costs of these shall be the purchaser's responsibility.
Also it states that the vehicle must be in perfect mechanical condition and perfect body condition for repurchase of the vehicle and if damages are noted that the pruchaser pays for the repair of vehicle, unless the insurance co. (multi-risk) agrees to bear the costs of damages. Regarding the insurance coverage I do not see that it covers the cost of vehicle anywhere, the only reference I can find to it is: value given by expert, which is vague to say the least! The web site states no deductible insurance that means you pay nothing even if you get a scratch! The papers they have sent to me say differently! There is also nothing that states anything about you pay for maintenance etc. on the web site.
All of this and I have to sign a promissory note for the full costs of the vehicle which is submitted to my bank on the date I return the car, unless they choose to repurchase, which they may or may not as I have stated above.

We are leasing this month from RenaultUSA. There is full insurance coverage with a zero deductible and 24 hour road side assistance which on the back of the contract it states that the insurance is covered in the contract price. Renault also is responsible for filing insurance claims. I think the only thing not covered is new tires. Also they only give you enough gas to get to a station but you do not have to fill it up upon return. The first scheduled maintenance is at 30,000 kilometers We are only planning to drive about 2,500k so does not seem to be a problem. You are recommended to check the oil every 1,000k. Our RenaultUSA contract states that they "warrant" to us the repurchase of the vehicle, excluding any optional items and providing we return it by the specified date and place. The only major caveat appears to be abnormal wear.
If you do a search for leases, many people have used this plan with out any problem.

Another thought, the booklet we received with our contract states when we get there we will get the warranty manual which must be returned with the car. If any repair was not covered by insurance, it would most likely be covered by the manufacturers warranty which are usually very comprehensive. Since these are brand new cars, the warranty should be fully in effect at least the first 10,000 kilometers, if not significantly longer.

MGB: Does the summary of your insurance that was sent to you have under
coverage fire, theft and physical damage to car: value given by expert? I find that VERY VAGUE! Auto France's Web site states 0 deductable! No where on it does it say 0 deductable!
They did not include any booklet regarding maintenance or rights and obligations of owner with our paperwork.
This is a very VAGUE policy and way to do business! It should be in print that the car is covered for the full value!
I am not happy that I was lead to believe it was 0 deductable on their web site, but when I get their paperwork it does NOT state that!
Thanks.

To prove my point on the summary of insurance it states in case of theft outside of the territorial boundaries that Peugeot will immediately claim from the customer the FULL VALUE OF THE CAR. So why do they not have it on the policy that the insurance covers the FULL VALUE OF THE CAR, for my protection!

I can't speak to the typical legal "mumbo-jumbo" of contracts, but I can tell you this.
Last year we had a Peugeot for two months from Auto France. Our trip was not uneventful. The car apparently shifted while packed onto the ferry to Sicily from Sardinia and put a big scrached area on the right front fender. In Dubrovnik we backed into a concrete planter we didn't see in the rear view mirror and put a major dent and chip in the rear bumper and fender. We also managed to get a fairly major dent in the driver's door -- we still don't know how or when. When we turned the car in (at Orly Airport) we mentioned these issues. The guy smiled and said, "isn't it nice to know that you have total coverage?" I trust them!

Hi again
My husband is not here at the moment and I cannot find the insurance paper but the web site is very clear, at least for Renault. I copied the list in that regard and it states that there is fully comprehensive insurance which includes theft except for personal belongings. There is also the caveat on certain countries for example Hungary is not a covered country.
I know with Renault we have a designated representative who has a toll free number and has been great about answering all my questions since this is the first time we have leased. I would suggest you call Auto France and discuss your concerns with them. It is inconceivable that they would advertise the complete coverage and then not give it to you. Too many people have used the service and were pleased to have such a big concern go undetected.
It always seems like these things come up on holidays or weekends when you cannot reach them but hopefully tomorrow you will be able to.

Thank you to all of you! I always read the fine print as I have seen and heard of many people who didn't and were unpleasantly surprised when they had a problem. (not about these two companies)
Yes, MGB it is unfortunate that all of this has came up on a holiday week-end as I have not been able to get in touch with anyone to get answers to my questions.
I have heard of nothing but good things about both companies on this forum, so that is why I decided to go this route v/ rental car. AutoEurope was cheaper than either of the lease companies, but I thought 0 deductable, which gave me piece of mind was worth it! (Or so I thought)
Did you have to sign a promissory note for the full amount of the vehicle (less the lease amount) for payment on the day of return? Does it have anything about it has to be in perfect mechanical and body condition for repurchase?
Patrick: MGB said that in her papers she has 24 hr. roadside assis.
Does Auoto France have this included? I have not received anything saying it does.
Also I did a search on this forum for Auto France and someone said that when they had a problem with their lease car from Auto France that they replaced it with another car. Do you know if this is possible. It is something I certainly plan on asking when I call them. Also you mentioned returning the car in Paris, we are returning the car in Rome, so I don't know if they would be as obliging.(considering they are the ones to determine repurchase)
Thank you both!

The first time we leased from AutoFrance we returned to Rome. Although we had no damage to the car, they had no way of knowing that, as we parked in the garage where they told us to and simply took the papers and keys to them. By the way, it was one of the easiest car returns ever. It seems in the US, I usually manage to get lost trying to find the right path to the correct auto return. But at the Rome airport it was easy as pie.
I forgot that we also did have a bit of a situation with our last AutoFrance rental. When we picked it up in Nice there was a major crack in the windshield that happened when that new car was delivered off the truck that morning. Because it was Saturday, there wasn't anything they could do about it, but we returned it on Monday and they had it replaced for us. Later I found out that we could have requested another "loaner car" instead until the actual car was repaired. Be aware that in the rare case that something like this happens, a replacement car is not quite so simple since the actual car has been registered in your name. But AutoFrance does provide you with a service number for any problem, and yes, they do have 24 hour service. But you should realize that if you had a problem in the middle of nowhere in Italy, for example, it would be unrealistic to think they will have a replacement car to you in 20 minutes or so.
I am unsure by your question if you seem to think that a "replacement car" is a good thing or bad thing. They will not substitute a car from the one you ordered if that's what you mean. But yes, if your car has a problem, they will replace it with another car. I think worrying about the possibility of getting a brand new Peugeot with some sort of major problem is really not worth losing any sleep over.

Hi Kay?
I think we talked earlier this year when we were both looking into the lease issue. We did have to sign a promisory note, it did not mention anything about it being in perfect condition. I would think this is for their protection should you not return the car.
We are leaving for Frankfurt Sept 9 and returning it in Paris on Oct 3, which I think we are both going to be somewhere in the Dordogne a few days from one another.
From everything I have seen, tires appear to be the only thing with exposure. It is suppose to be efficient and other than the gas less worrysome. We ended up leasing the Renault Scenic manual with air for 4 adults.
Try and relax, I cannot remember when you leave but I think it was before we get back otherwise I could give you a report.
I am doing detailed trip tics today since it is raining here which is why I have been on the computer so much.
Let me know if I can assist in any other way.
Regards, Mary Ann

Hi MGB, I thought we talked earlier, but wasn't positive until you mentioned it. I still am trying to finalize our trip. It has been hard to get the computer since my son has on line classes.
Where did you wind up staying in the Dordogne area?
Our trip starts the 9/23 (Paris)and we fly out of Rome on 10/22.
We decided on the 307, even though it is just the 2 of us.
Are you picking up the Renault in Frankfurt?
Thank you for your help, and enjoy your trip.
Patrick: You were correct, I was referring to replacement of auto if we had to have repairs.
Thank you also for your help. I am calling tomorrow to hopefully get my questions answered. I absolutely do not want any surprises!

hi
Yes we start in Frankfurt then to Rothenburg, Munchen, Muerren, and Varenna before we head into France. We then drop the car off in Paris. I think there was a $75 pick up charge for Frankfurt.
Hope all goes well with your call to Auto France.

Hi Mary Ann,
I think you made the right choice picking Renault as it sounds pretty straight forward. The $75 you are paying for pick up charge sounds pretty good also. We are paying $265 for drop off in Rome. Rome drop off fee is expensive no matter who I went with.
Sounds as if some of the areas we are visiting will be pretty dry since they have had a hot summer.
Our summer has been the driest on record here in Seattle.
Enjoy your trip. You are going to some wonderful places, so I am sure you will!

I saved $75 on a Renault Eurodrive lease this summer by calling Rob Liddiard Travel (800-272-3299). Rob is an agent for Renault USA in New York. All I did was to call and deal through him. My 68 day lease--pick up and return London Heathrow--went without a hitch.

Hi Mary Ann,
Thanks for inquiring. I have someone that has been working with Auto France for a quite while that is going to fax me something saying it is a 0 deductable insurance policy, if nothing else she will put it in writing herself on the summary of Insurance that it is a non deductable policy. She told me that it was on the Peugeot.com/sodexa site and it shows there that it is a non deductable policy. (I checked it out and it is there) She said that I was the first and only person who has ever brought this to their attention that it is not written on any of the papers that they send out. She said it is on the insurance policy that is given to us when we pick the car up. They were very nice and said they could understand my concerns.
You do not have very long before you leave.
I am glad I still have some time left before we leave as I am still working on my itinerary and reservations!
Have a great trip!
Kay
