Are shops in Italy open on Sundays?

We're planning to drive through Citta de Pieve on a Sunday morning. I hear they have wonderful creches there. Will all the shops be closed? What about in Orvieto?

I have no idea about those towns, but the shops were open in Rome on Sunday after 12:00 p.m. Hopefully someone else can help you. If you already have hotel reservations, email them. They should know the answer. Good luck.

How about shops in Florence on a Sunday? On Aug 15th? It is a national holiday in Italy apparently....

THANKS

Only shops that specifically cater to tourists are usually open on Sunday. This goes for Rome, Florence and smaller Italian towns like Citta della Pieve. Even shops that are usually open on a Sunday will probably be closed on August 15th and many shops, especially in smaller towns, will close from August 15 until Sept. 1 or so.

Uh Oh! Would the shops in Florence reopen on Mon, Aug 16th?
Will there be any restaurants open on Sun, Aug 15th, to go to lunch/dinner??

August 15 definitely NOT -- that is a major Italian holiday. Normally, shops are open til about 3 pm on Sundays (like in Rome) but going to a smaller town and on a holiday, don't count on it. Perhaps you can look up the information prior on-line and get the hours of some of those places.
