Anyone have any comment on Hotel Italia in Rome?
We are going to Italy for the first time in September, and are considering staying at the Hotel Italia b/c of it's central location and price. Just wanted to know if this would be a good choice.

My sister and I stayed there in the fall of 2002 and were pleased with it, especially considering the rate. Our room faced on the street, and we had no trouble with exterior or interior noise. Our room was immaculate and adequate in size. The location was extremely convenient and the front desk was helpful.

Message: In Feb 2003, my wife and I stayed at the Hotel Italia, on Via Venezia just of Via Nazionale. The location is pretty good, around 15 minutes to Piazza Navona area and ~10 to Termini. The (in)famous bus 64 stops just on Via Nazionale. We paid ~EUR 72 for a double with bath (well, shower) with low season and Rick Steves discount. We liked the hotel. The staff was friendly, the rooms clean (don't be put off by the buidling), and the breakfast good. They can be found at http://www.hotelitaliaroma.com/.
Also, I don't remember having a minibar. In fact, I'm pretty sure we didn't as I seem to recall putting stuff on the ledge outside the window to keep it cool. (It was Feb.)
Enjoy your trip,
Paul

we just got back from our honeymoon & we stayed 5 nights at Hotel Italia. If you're on a budget, id definitly recommend it. I havent travelled in Italy all that much, but from what I understand, accomodations over there are very sparse for what you pay for, so keeping that in mind, we liked our room.
We payed 100 Euro/night (after telling them we wanted the Rick Steves discount - simply mentioned it in our email & they gave it to us) for a double room. The room was definitly small, but very clean. The bathroom was also very small, but clean & looked like brand new tile.
One thing is, the hotel & front desk is on one side of the street, but they have a floor of rooms in a building across the street, & thats where they put us. It was slightly annoying because anytime you wanted to go to the front desk, you had to go across the street to the other building, and every day you have to drop off your keys at the front desk so... Also I thought our room was pretty noisy.
None of it was that big of a deal, but if you can request to stay in the main building, i might try that.
I thought the location was great.
And the staff was really helpful and nice.
Have a great time, we loved Rome!
