Travelocity "gurantee" is a crock
Hi guys.
Not strictly cruise, but thought I'd share this with you.
I booked a hotel through Travelocity. Got there, and the place was disgusting (smelled bad, didn't have the amenities promised).
Called Travelocity & was on the phone with a rep. in India for 40 minutes. Got the second night refunded, they told me to call back about getting the first night refunded.
Called back, spent ANOTHER 40 minutes on the phone (again, India). Then was told I needed to call them again when the manager of the hotel might be in. I told them this was crap and they needed to just refund the charge--even a supervisor was no help.
E-mailed support, told them the story. They e-mailed back saying a supervisor would contact me. Never happened despite 4 follow-up e-mails from me.
So, I just disputed the charge with my bank.
Though I've previously had good luck with Travelocity (and was even a "preferred member" I'd warn you away from these lying reptiles.
Cheers!

Joan:
The hotel was the Econolodge in Dayton, Ohio. I actually called the hotel directly before booking to verify they had an public Internet terminal I could use to check e-mail--desk clerk told me they did. I didn't spend the night.
Z:
I guess I can't say with 100% certainty that I was talking to people in India, but on two calls, two reps. and two supervisors all had Indian accents (i.e., four people total).
Not that I have any particular problem with call centers being in India, I just wonder if there's a cultural thing about avoiding conflict or if Travelocity doesn't give the employees as much discretion as they need? I mean, if a customer calls and says "This place smells bad & I was lied to--I'm not staying here" the short answer should be--"Fine, we'll get you a refund."
Especially for "Preferred members" who have done a lot of business through your service--and especially when you spend millions touting your guarantee (which I can spell by the way--sorry about the typo in the title..."

Well...if you call my company you may as well get 2 of those people on a row and we are in Philadelphia...
The short answer should be--"Fine, we'll get you a refund."
I think they were instructed to think "@^&%$...we are in India" - while talking to us.

Their answer should have been "Sorry! We'll find you a better place right now!" Not "you're on your own, we'll mail you a refund". At least that's the way the TV commercial plays it: the little magic gnome will make it right - instantly.
ziana, what in the world is your point? Maybe it's just me, but I can never make much sense of your posts...

Oh, I guess I should also mention (forgot about this) that when I asked the first rep. to find me a room in another hotel--and specified the Crown Plaza (which I had booked through Travelocity the last time I was in town) she told me there were no rooms available.
I asked: "There are no hotel rooms available at all in Dayton, Ohio?"
She replied: "That's right."
You know how the story ends--I stayed at the Crown Plaza the next two nights.
And Zianna--please keep posting. The board hasn't been this fun since the old Peter/Paul battle days.
Cheers!

Well, that's just because you guys aren't tuned into the intricate, non-linear thought processes that Z & I are capable of. As Robert Benchley (1889-1945) once said:
"It is rather to be chosen than great riches, unless I have omitted something from the quotation."
I think you all know exactly what I mean.

YO TRI! As an ex tri myself and now an ex Travelocity fan, I can tell you that since AOL took over the company, it's gone downhill. Have you ever called "America" online for an answer? Anyway, I tend to go to tripadvisor.com and compare side-by-side deals, then go to hotel website to match the price. Expedia has been consistently better than travelocity. Anyway, your experience reminds me of that old joke:
Mujibar was trying to get a job in India.
The Personnel Manager said, "Mujibar, you have passed all the tests,
except one. Unless you pass it you cannot qualify for this job."
Mujibar said, "I am ready."
The manager said, "Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and
Green."
Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, "Mister manager, I am
ready."
Mujibar said, "The telephone goes green, green, green, and I pink it
up, and say, 'Yellow, this is Mujibar.'"
Mujibar now works as a technician at a call center for computer
problems.
No doubt you have spoken to him
