need Bahamas resort recommendation
This is for a co-worker of mine (I told her I would play travel agent!)...
This is for a couple in their early 30s who wnat to go to the Bahamas for a long weekend trip (3 nights). Looking for a great beach, nice hotel, good restaurants nearby and some nightlife.
Any ideas??
Thanks!

I've been to the Radisson and it was okay, but not really all that great. Atlantis was much nicer and had a lot more activities and good restaurants if they are willing to spend the extra money. Tell them to go ahead and get the meal plans if they decide to go there. It will save them some money in the long run. Many people don't like Atlantis because it is big and Disneyish in a way, but my husband and I (early 30s) absolutely loved it there!

I would agree that Nassau would probably be the best idea for a weekend stay.
Depending on where they are flying from they could be on the beach by noon, if leaving from the Northeast. Delta has an early am flight from LaGuardia and it's a 2 1/2 hour flight.
I would suggest something a bit more on the romantic side. Compas Point is a bit further away from the crowds at Cable Beach. The accomodations are bunglaows overlooking the ocean and the restaurant there is one of the best on island.
For a day adventure, they might like the fast ferry over to Harbour Island to do some snorkling, shopping and see one of the most beautiful beaches in the carribean.
Hope they have a great time.

Thanks. I found your trip report...sounds nice. Just one more question...is there anything near the hotel as far as nightlife? casinos or anything? I would guess not and for me that would be just fine but i think my friends may want a little more action. So I guess I will steer them toward the Radisson Cable Beach or maybe the Sheraton Grand on PI. Any thoughts on the British Colonial Hilton?

kristen: there was a casino being built at our lucaya when we were there (october 2003). they were supposed to be done 2 months or so later. so they should be done by now, but your friends should call or e-mail the westin to confirm.
there's another casino on the island. i THINK it's 15 minutes or less from the hotel by cab.

Kristen,
I believe the new casino is open at Our Lucaya but I can't review it as it was still under construction when we were there. I don't believe there was an abundance of clubs and that sort of thing right at the resort but that may all have changed since the casino opened. Our vacation at Our Lucaya was extremely low-key and relaxing with beautiful beaches and pools. Threehearts
