How easy is it to arrange transfer (by car) to Hua Hin from BKK. I'd rather not do a taxi on a meter!!

Can you arrange it on arrival?
Is there an official sales counter?
Is it a set price or negotiated?
How much is it per car or how much should I roughly agree to pay per car?

You can arrange it on arrival. I've arranged it on the spot on arrival at BKK with no difficulty. It's a fixed price, per car. I'm sorry, it's been long enough since I last did this, I can't remember the price. I expect JamesA can tell us.

You can also arrange for your hotel in Hua Hin to make the transfer arrangements (so that if you're arriving in the middle of the night, you don't need to think about it).

We took a minivan that we arranged through the BKK TAT office once we arrived in BKK. It was cheap. You're jammed in with other riders, but not unbearably. I'm 6 feet, 200 pounds and was not overly cramped. An individual car would be much nicer, but you'd lose the faux spirit of togetherness.

I've done this trip a few times using a driver and car based in Hua Hin. I contacted a place called Ken Diamond Tours in Hua Hin. They are on the net and I simply emailed them with times, dates and places. The Driver turned up on time each time, the car was reasonably good and his driving was good. There is a set price (I recall around 1800bt one way) and you just pay the driver when you arrive at the destination.

A taxi would be slightly cheaper but the car was more comfortable and there was room for luggage - watch some of the taxis have gas(LPG) tanks in the boot and there is only a very little room for luggage. Hotels usually charge a lot more for their cars. Depending on where you are staying the hotel may run a minivan to and from Bangkok for a very good price. Drawback is that you have to go at their times.

I can certainly recommend Ken Diamonds but there are a number of others too.

i did it from a bkk hotel using aac limo from the airport and it cost about $65 for a mercedes sedan which was very comfortable and quick..

we came back by sharred van for about $12.50 each and it was a tough ride with many stops and the a/c did not work well...you can also take a bus and it is very cheap...

The Airport limo service operates 24/7 and no need to book, a large sedan ( Toyota Camry or similar ) is about B 2,850, worth the extra over a normal taxi, that's about USD 71. If you are staying in a hotel they can arrange same, just tell concierge the night before. A normal taxi is about 1,800 now ( fuel has gone up a lot ) but I would go for the limo for comfort.

On return the rate is about 1,600-1,800 from the local Hua Hin taxis that you find on Phethckassem Road near the temple, easy, again tell them/arrange the day before.

I also used Ken Diamond both ways. The driver was there on time in both Bangkok and in Hua Hin. You book online and then pay the driver. I booked the cheaper car, but each time a Mercedes was there and at no additional price.

I agree, Ken Diamond has an excellent reputation and good service, I often suggest them for tours and trips around Hua Hin.
