You can negotiate with any taxi to take you from Bangkok to Pattaya. If you want something more comfortable than a taxi, one of the limo services like AAC or AOT can take you. The limo services drive larger sedans, usually a Mercedes or BMW vs. the Toyota Corolla taxis.

I don't know where you will be staying in Bangkok, but in the Sukhumvit area, along soi 8 where my apartment hotel is located, there are always at least 2-3 vans/taxis parked along the street (soi) with advertising signs on the windows, listing the prices they charge to drive you to various places, including Pattaya. I'm not sure if we paid 1000 or 2000 baht each way... may have been 2000 baht each way?? And that is for the vehicle, not per person in the vehicle. Your hotel in Pattaya can arrange the return to BKK, or you can ask the driver who takes you to Pattaya to return and pick you up. We have tried doing this... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!!!
Most drivers will stop at a very large rest area that is about halfway to Pattaya. It is a MEGA-sized rest area with every food imagineable, and restrooms. This rest area is always BUSY!!! Makes for a nice stretch though.

Bus from the Ekamai bus terminal to Pattaya is about 114 baht for the 2 hour ride. You can take the Skytrain to the Ekamai bus station. Pattaya bus ticket window is on the right side of the building.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport Bell Travel is 200 baht for the bus/van ride to Pattaya and your hotel. Bell Travel also picks up from Bangkok hotels for 350 baht . Also from the airport "Bus 389" is 124 baht.

Just about any travel agency in Bangkok can set you up with a shared van ride to Pattaya for around 400 baht. Even some hotels can also set you up with this type ride.
If you go with a taxi have an definite address not just a hotel name. Many taxis from Bangkok are not that familiar with everywhere in Pattaya. You can copy the hotel website, some even have maps and directions.
Map of Pattaya, mahybe you an locate your hotel on the map.

For the return from Pattaya to Bangkok a taxi price often quoted is 800 baht. Bell Travel is very reliable for getting you to the airport or to a hotel in Bangkok but there are time limits. Always have small notes and change for paying taxis drivers.

Personally, I'd go with Mr T. The ideal ride is in your own van/taxi and not on a bus. Or even a shared van, for that matter, in my opinion. You'll be travelling with luggage, I assume, since you are being picked up at the airport. Mr T's rate is definitely reasonable for a personal driver to Pattaya, and even moreso if there is more than one of you going in his taxi, to the same Pattaya hotel.
Yes, do have the address of your hotel in hand. Even with an address, it isn't always an easy task getting to your exact Pattaya location. We have always stayed at the Marriott (well known resort) but the first time we tried to get there, the driver really did not know HOW to get there! He had a general idea... it took an extra 20 minutes or more to negotiate the one-ways and find the location. But on our return, the driver (from Bangkok) was spot on. He agreed to come back and pick us up for our return to Bangkok.

From the AIRPORT to Pattaya 1000 is a good price.
The usual is about 1300.
about 1.5 to 2 hours should do it
Route 7 now goes directly onto Sukhumvit next to Central Road.
The Bell bus service is recommended by many - there is a free shuttle to your hotel....but you are still restricted to bus timetables
