Yankees Tickets at Home
Visiting NYC this summer. Thinking about catching a Yankees game the week of July 4th, at home at Yankee Stadium. Does anyone know how to get discounted tickets for the baseball games? Also, anyone familiar with the stadium--good places or bad places to sit, and the best way to get there from Midtown? Other details...

There is no such thing as discounted tickets for Yankee games. Yes, for weekday night games you can buy tickets from scalpers around the stadium for less than face value, but the Yankees average about 50k per game - almost full capacity.
I never show up at the Stadium without tickets in hand. For many games you can buy tickets at yankees.com, but they are often the worst seats.
I like to buy tickets at stubhub.com. My preference is
1. anything on the lower level, (Main box or main reserved) including as far out as RF or LF outfield, either along the foul line or even in fair territory
2. Loge box, no further out than 1B or 3B (~box 462/461)
I don't like the upper deck. Too high and far away for my liking.
For most games I can get tickets for about 25-50% over face value on stubhub.com. Once in a while I'll buy tickets at yankees.com box office - I'd start there to see what is avail.
The subway (D i think) runs right to Yankee stadium - it's the only way to get there from Manhattan.

I think the Mets are more of a fans' team, in opposite of the Yankees, which are more of a big-corporate, and so you will better enjoy the athmosphere of a Mets game.

Yankees tickets are never discounted. They sell out almost every game, most of the decent seats are held by season ticket holders (but you can sometimes buy them from a scalper). I wouldn't sit in the upper tier since it is so steep - and so far away it's hard to see anything. But often usually are the only seats available.
I would pcik a game now and get tickets so yo have choice of anything decent left. And definitely try to get in the second level - naturally near third or first is best - but usually only outfield is available.

Don;t know why anybody thinks the Yankees are a "corporate" team - obviously you're never seen the bleachers - or been there for any exciting games. (I've been there when I thought the Stadium would collapse people were stamping so hard.) The atmophers is incredibly electric - and Yankees fans are true diehards versus Met fans.
(And yes -- I have seen the Mets play several times - boring versus the Stadium crowd.)

Stubhub is good but I've also had good luck on Ebay--just be careful to buy from a reliable seller.
As said above, the best way to go is subway as it goes right to the stadium.
It's actually a lot of fun since there will be tons of fans also going to the game.

With luck you can get a discounted ticket, but only if you show up at the stadium and luck into meeting someone looking to get rid of an extra. I have had some luck and have got tickets for regular season games for less than face value, but I typically have to pay at least face value, and sometimes more, even much more for a popular game.

The best place for tickets is probably the Yankees website. I've also had alot of success with ebay getting tickets at a reasonable price.
Also the trains to the stadium on the West side take the D and on the east side take the 4. Both stop right at the stadium.

You can usually get tier (third level up) seats on the web site until fairly close to game time - except for popular opponents (esp Red Sox and Mets). The problems are: incredibly steep incline, very far from the field - and will take 30 minutes to get from your seat to/from the entrance to the stadium.
If it's an unpopular opponent - or bad weather - you can sometimes get tickets for less than face value at the Stadium - but not unitl just as or after the game starts.
