Yankees Tickets at StubHub.com
We would like to see a Yankees game while we're in NYC in August, but we want cheap tickets because we are mostly interested in checking out the stadium and absorbing the atmosphere.
Is it safe to buy tickets on StubHub.com or some other web site with which you are familiar.

Agreed that stubhub is safe. I don't know about cheap though. There's been a lot of demand for the cheaper NYY seats this year since there was a big increase in the price of many of the more expensive seats.
If it's not a premium game or a Fri/Sat/Sun I'm sure you could get a better deal buying tickets outside the stadium right before game time.
I personally like the comfort of having tickets in hand before I go to a venue.

YOu might check the Yankees website for ticket info as well. I bought through Stubhub last year for tickets and had great a great seat and I think it was $60.
Also check ebay for availability for the time you are here.
It will also depend on who the Yankees are playing as to ticket availability and price. If its a Red Sox game, tickets are hard to come by and will be expensive.
I live within walking distance of the stadium, in Manhattan, and the new stadium is quite something and worth a trip. If the game tickets are too expensive you might try and book a tour of the stadium instead.

say, post THAT. Sorry.
With eBay, bidding in the last 5 or 10 minutes is nearly essential. But with Baltimore tickets, I won them with a bid that was hours ahead of time. They were FABULOUS seats too- from a season ticket holder who didn't need them for that date.

Yes - stubhub.com is fine - but don;t know how cheap their tickets will be. Have you already tried the Yankee site to see what tickets are for sale there?
In any case, do get an exact location for the tickets (I think stubhub allows you to see both te seat section and a view from that section before you buy. If not there, check for the location of the sets on the yankee site before buying.)

I just won my Seattle seats in a bid at ebay. I'm right behind the Sox dugout.
Be careful when doing these bids upon the shipping charges. I ended up bidding only from the vendors that shipped free. And btw, I couldn't have purchased these section's tickets from the Seattle Mariner's site, as they were not offered. And the prices were higher were higher for much higher and farther away seats. That's not always the case, but it sometimes is. So check out the Yankees site for ticketmaster or whatever just to see first.
I just read on Comcast that the Yankees have empty seats visible and are not selling out at all. It probably was not common in the past. Good luck.
But do check out those shipping charges- because in my case it made a such a difference in total price that the "deal" was no "deal".
I found stubhub, for every game I've been interested in, expensive.
