Providence airport to Welfleet -- Sat. or Sun?

Hi everyone,

We are going to spend the week of Sept. 3-10 in Wellfleet. My husband and I are driving from NJ (about 6 hours, I hear) and my mom will fly in from Iowa to meet us. I've read the posts here and it seems best for her to fly in to Providence rather than Logan. My question is, should she fly in on the 3rd (a Sat.) so that we'd pick her up on our way out to Wellfleet around mid-afternoon? Or, would it be easier for us to go straight to Wellfleet on Sat., unpack and get settled and then have her fly in on the 4th (Sun.) and drive back to pick her up and spend the day in Providence. I'm concerned mostly with traffic and ease of travel that time of year in those areas.

Any help is appreciated!

Agree - you do not want to make that drive twice, especially over Labor Day weekend. Six hours from where in NJ? Even if it is northern NJ, that is with no traffic. After you get on Cape Cod, it is a drive to the other end of the Cape to Wellfleet - about an hour under the best of circumstances.

Mid-afternoon Saturday of Labor Day weekend should be OK. However, it is rains, everyone on the Cape decides to drive someplace, so there can be annoying traffic.

You did not ask, but for return trip on Sat 9/10, expect more traffic than you would think, so allow for time. Even though it is after Labor Day, most rentals are Sat to Sat AM, so everyone leaves Cape on Sat around noon.

You've gotten good advice. You do not want to make that drive two days in a row. Gail's right. On-Cape traffic won't be bad by Saturday afternoon. And even Rt. 6 traffic won't be bad on the Cape. If it's raining, it will be mostly local traffic that gets crazy.

Agree with others.

Or, have her flown into Hyannis or even Provincetown.
