Inexpensive hotel near Ft Myers airport?
we will fly into Ft Myers late and need somewhere to sleep. Near the airport or on the way to Marco Island. We are looking for somewhere clean and decent but inexpensive since we only need a bed to crash into until the next morning when we leave for Marco Island, where we are staying at the Hilton. The cheapest I saw is Fairfield at Airport for $119 and I was hoping there is something cheaper in that airport area or less than 10 miles away.

I take it you are coming soon. Sadly the motels that normally should be about $39 or $49 a night are all around $100 this time of year in SW Florida. I checked a few weeks ago for friends wanting to stay near the Bonita exit of I-75 which would be about your 10 miles south, but the Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Baymont, Days Inn, and Hampton -- all near that exit were all over $100.
The Best Western Airport Inn at the airport exit of I-75 should be the lowest priced, so you might check that, but doubt it will be much better.
I know that the Fairfield you checked advertises an AAA special guaranteed every night for $49 -- but only from May through the week before Christmas. This time of year as you can tell it at least doubles in cost.

These are close to RSW & I-75
(all 239 area code)
Hampton Inn 768-2525
Best Western Airport Inn 561-7000
Comfort Suites 768-0005
Sleep Inn 561-7111
Donaldson Hotels 454-0040
Wynstar suites 791-5000
I would say most are new or newer. We have stayed in some Sleep inns..run/owned by Comfort Inns and Comfort Suites. Nice rooms. Check out their website and you should get a picture of the motel and their rooms.
Enjoy our area! Hope this helps.

I just stayed at the brand new Country Inn and Suites at Sanibel Gateway in Fort Myers in January for $69, booked on Quikbook.com. Check to see if they are still offering it. It's only about 15 minutes from the airport. They also have a nice free breakfast daily. I got the tip from a Fodorite, and am happy to pass it on.

Just for fun I went to Quikbook and entered a couple of dates in March at random. In each case the cheapest they showed was the Country Inn and Suites (but not very convenient for going from RSW to Marco, by the way) at $125. Even a Hampton Inn was $149.
I also checked Sleep Inns. The cheapest rate I could find was either a Senior or AAA rate at $116.95
I repeat, season is expensive in SW Florida. Good luck.
