Looking for Reasonable Lodging Homestead, Florida - Recommendations Appreciated

Hi All, I'm looking for reasonably-priced lodging in the Homestead area, from which to explore the Everglades. I'd like clean, comfortable and simple, but not a dive. There seem to be a number of choices in this area. Any to recommend? Any to avoid?

We stayed last week at the Holiday Inn Express--we paid $121.00 a nite thru AAA, they were quoting $140 a nite to walk ins. The entrance to the park was only like hmmm 15 minutes away, very easy to find. Have fun--the weather was great. By the way the Holiday Inn is new, so very clean.

Thanks, Guys! I forgot to post under $100, as we've splurged in other areas - supposed to be a camping trip mostly, but a girl need somy luxuries! The Best Western is sold out for the dates we need. I'll check the Holiday Inn Express. There are lots of mom and pop type of establishments, but I have no idea what they're like. Anybody have any experience with these? I may have to try to get a room when we got there.

Molly, I understand your problem, I too wanted to keep it under a $100, we were just going to spend the night. However it was becoming so time consuming that I just opted for the higher price.

Also keep in mind they have a 13% tax.

The only thing I can say is I did see the Comfort Inn and the Motel 8 from the street--would not recommend either.

I think the travellodge has been remodeled inside, but did not see it while there.

Sorry I can not be more help.

Did you try the Hampton Inn in Florida City?

I just stayed at the Hampton Inn in Florida City in January and it was clean, affordable (ask for AAA rate) and was at the exact intersection off Rt. 1 that you need to turn on to get to the Everglades.

Thanks, SiestaLinda, I'll avoid those two hotels! Gotravel and npurple, the Hampton Inn looks like a good possibility, even though it is over our budget. I appreciate the tips!
