Accommodations in or near Poughkeepsie, NY

Can anyone recommend $85-$95 per night accommodations for three adults (2 rooms) in or near Poughkeepsie? Thanks.

There ae several national chain motels on Rt.9 just south of the city.I recommend that you stay in that area rather than in the middle of town.

What is your destination, and how near Poughkeepsie do you mean? I'm familiar with the area and can pinpoint a location for you if you need help. $85-$95 may be difficult to come by - for some reason it's an oddly, comparatively high priced market.

SuQue is correct. Just south of Poughkeepsie on Rt 9 are several chain motels.

The Holiday Inn Express has been around a long time, although I think it was refurbished not too long ago. I think that's the cheapest of these chain hotels in that area. Marriott Residence Inn and the Courtyard have been around for a few years. The Hampton Inn is newer - can't have been open for more that 1-2yrs. All of them are close to IBM Poughkeepsie facility. The Rt 9 location is your typical main commercial drag.

I don't know the prices on these, so you may need to shop around. I do know that guests who are with one of the big companies in the area, or who are visiting that company can get a special rate - Residence Inn @ $89, for example. Prices are quite a bit higher for the general public. If you don't like the rate you get online try calling the hotel directly to get a better rate, or a corporate rate if feel you might be eligible.

There's also a Day's Inn right near Vassar in Poughkeepsie. It changed hands/brand about 2yrs ago. It's an older hotel, but may have been refurbished. It'll be cheaper than the Marriotts and Hampton Inn.

A little further (10mi) south on Rt 9, right at the I-84 Exit 13 is another cluster of hotels - if that location is what you're looking for I can give you a list there.

You might get a days inn for that budget, but I don't think it will work for a non-discounted room at a Holiday Inn Express or Courtyard.

The cluster of hotels near I-84 in Fishkill may (does) generally offer better prices than the hotels closer to Poughkeepsie.

This is the list for Fishkill. I think the Homewood and the HI Express are the cheapest, unless you have a business/discount rate at one of the others.

Hotel Sierra Fishkill
Hilton Garden Inn
Residence Inn Fishkill
Hampton Inn Fishkill (quite new)
Holiday Inn (older hotel)
Holiday Inn Express (quite new)
Homestead Studio Suites (changed hands/brands about 2yr ago)

Back from the trip. We stayed at the Golden Manor Motel, across the street from the entrance to the FDR estate, which turned out to be well located. Coming from the north, one must continue farther down the road to make a U-turn because the road markings do not allow a left turn at that location. The motel is a little tired, at least for the back curtains, but it is clean and the cost was right: $55 + tax per night. Its breakfast (included) is absolutely forgettable--bad coffee and muffins and donuts from a someplace. But it is only a couple miles from the Culinary Institute of America which has wonderful breakfasts in their café and relatively cheap (http://www.ciachef.edu/restaurants/apbc/breakfast.asp )

Good to hear back. I noticed 2 other budget hotels a little further south of Poughkeepsie on Rt9 & was going to dig up this thread but forgot. A Super 8 and one called the Mercury Grand Hotel. Both are older, likely also very tired properties, but would be lower budget than the newer Hampton Inn or Marriott chains.
