Hehe...good luck.
Maybe things have improved, but when I went to school there 15 years ago there was nothing worth making an effort for.
The old University Inn used to be OK.
There were no near luxury hotels.
Unless something new has been built, I'd go for clean and dependable, like one of the Marriott sub-brands....I think Courtyard and Fairfield are all they have though.
Long season for Bears fans.
My sympathies.

I agree with the above posters in that there are no luxury (or even near luxury) hotels in Champaign. But for specific recommendations, the following hotels are fairly new and decent: Holiday Inn (Holidome), Ramada Limited, and the Hampton Inn in Urbana, and Courtyard Inn, Fairfield Inn, and Drury Inn & Suites in Champaign. I would not recommend the University Inn for anything other than location (which is excellent). Jumer's is okay. I thought there used to be a Radisson but I don't see it listed on Radisson's website so maybe it shut down or changed hands.

University Inn is no longer an option as it was converted into apartments a couple of years ago. You will have trouble finding hotel rooms for football weekends. The most convenient and probably "the best" in town is Chancellors Inn which used to be a Radisson. As others said, most other chain hotels/motels are available also. As for price, due to high demand on football weekends, you'll end up paying more.

We're going for the Bears/Vikings game this Sunday. I called for reservations months ago (May? June?) and evn then couldn't find any openings. I finally got a room at the Eastland Suites in Urbana.
Let me assure you you can spend over $100 down there, because everyone has jacked up their prices in celebration of all the extra business coming to town. We're paying $103 for a room with two double beds. I have no idea if we're in for a h@ll hole or what, except that they do have an indoor pool.
When I contacted the Holidome (don't know number, but shouldn't be hard to find) I was told that's where the away teams will stay, so they won't take any res. until the weekend of when they see what's left open. You might give that a shot.
