Drive in southern california??? Suggestions

My boyfriend and I are visiting san diego next wk and are renting a car. We would love to take a day to drive the coastline, maybe head north? It would be great to stop by beached, little towns ,etc. We did this in Flordia down the keys. Think it is a good idea and any suggestions of where to stop and how far north to go???help please!!!

You can take the 101 up the coast, which is a pretty drive. You will pass through beach towns, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff, Encinitas, Leucadia and Carlsbad. Depending on what you want to stop for, there are beaches, restaurants, shops etc. At Oceanside you can turn around and come back down, either the 5 (freeway) or back the way you came, the 101. You can't go past Oceanside on the 101 because at Camp Pendleton it ends for a bit

You will get on the 101 off the 5 at Torrey Pines Rd. from there to Oceanside it's only about 20 miles. How long you take is up to you. There are lots of places to stop. For shopping the Cedros district in Solana Beach is unique and different. There are state beaches and local beaches. Plenty of restaurants. You could do it in a few hours to take the whole day

A great place to start your day is Brockton Villa in La Jolla for breakfast, great ocean views and good food. See brocktonvilla.com

You may have already left for San Diego, but this article was in today's paper, perfect timing on the 101 http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniont...t27sd101m.html
