We are looking for a boutique hotel that is well located and under $300.00 per night for 3 nights. Thanks! Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

The cost will really depend on when you plan on coming to town.

That said, I've stayed at the Dylan Hotel a few times when I've had reasons to stay overnight in the city. (I live in the nearby suburbs.) We've paid under $200, but that was with a corporate discount. I don't think their rates would be much above that.

Very centrally located on 41st street between Madison and Park. Rooms are decorated in a modern style. Their steakhouse is good, with a big roaring fireplace.

Reviews are mostly favorable.

I've stayed there three times and have never had a problem. Rooms are clean and the staff let me sleep off my hangover without knocking on the door at 10 a.m.

Prices fluctuate dramatically depending on dates so it's impossible to guarantee what will be under $300 without dates or at least time of year. Also, the term boutique hotel can mean different things to different people. If you're looking for hip/trendy places, Quikbook.com often has the Hotel on Rivington and the Smyth in Tribeca at good prices and Gild Hall can be a bargain especially on weekends. If by boutique you just mean the smaller hotels like the Giraffe, Iroquois etc. at under $300, the only one that I can think of that's consistently under $300 is the Park South. There was a special for it on travelzoo.com (which is now gone) but Morgans is another idea which is there. The Kitano flies somewhat under the radar too.

Melanie43, You do need to define your question a bit more for us. "Well located" depends on what you might want to do in NY. Having said that, I go to NY for theater and we really love The Muse. Great staff, wine hour each evening, excellent location for theater, stylish rooms, big baths, good location for subway access.

I've been staying at The Park South for years and the most I've ever paid was $279 over marathon weekend.

Usually it is under $200 and includes a fantastic breakfast and is steps from the Lex line.

Agree with the suggestion for the Park South--although I have paid $300 there even with a AAA discount, but that was in 10/08. It's a great value and I love staying so close to many of my favorite restaurants, but do be aware that the standard rooms with one bed are *tiny* (the standards with 2 beds are a little bigger).

Last week I stayed at On the Ave on the UWS instead (77th and Broadway)--the price through Quikbook was well under $200/night. This hotel used to be my go to moderate NYC boutique hotel before the rates went through the roof and I like it. I enjoyed being on the UWS near Central Park, and it was nice to have a room that was a little bigger than the one I had last year at the Park South.

We have just booked the Empire Hotel at $163 over Easter (!) via Hotwire. I consider it an amazing deal, regarding the hotel's regular rates (which go well above $300).

Use www.betterbidding.com to identify hotels and to access Hotwire. It is an excellent combination.

(I do not advertise. I used Hotwire for the first time in my life, because it was recommended here on this forum, and I got amazing results.)

DS and fiancee stayed here and liked it very much. Rooms were small but service good and they loved the very hip atmosphere.

I was at On the Ave hotel last week. I've stayed here many times, and love their beds, location, and the feel of the hotel. UWS Neighborhood is full of great places to eat, subway and central park are close, and prices are quite reasonable. they usually have good discounts for 3 or more nights, too.

I travel to NYC frequently for business and often stay at Morgan's Hotel at 38th and Madison for $260/night. And this includes a lovely breakfast- bagels, fresh sliced fruit, juices, yogurt, cereals, coffee, tea. If you have time, I also recommend signing up for local hotel guest reward programs before you go (e.g. Thompson group, Starwood, etc.), and often you will get unadvertised specials via email. Also, when you are booking do it directly through the hotel manager (NEVER the reservation line) and tell them what you need. They have the flexibility to make sure you have the best rate and any amenities you may need.

Thank you, thank you so much for all your suggestions! They were most helpful! I used Quickbook booking for the first time. I finally called them directly and they couldnt have been nicer. We finally booked the Indigo for $379. It was the least expensive that was available for the nights we.

I see you've already booked, but I was going to suggest The Franklin Hotel. they have a buy 2 get one free deal going on and the nights average out to less than $300.

I'm sorry to say that's a ridiculously high rate for a 3* hotel in that location (imo). Even if you're coming for NYE or the marathon, imo, it's too much. There are no reviews on tripadvisor, no photos of the rooms anywhere I can find online. The good news is most all reservations on quikbook are easily changed with no penalty. I can't believe there's nothing cheaper. Forget boutique and just get a decent room in a decent hotel.

I do not know Melanie's dates, but we booked a 4-star hotel in good location at $163 in high season, so her deal sounds pretty expensive.

That does seem really high. How about the Pod Hotel? I found out about it on www.nyc-visitor-discounts.com. It also list some other options. With competition as it is, you can certainly do better than that. Also, the Marriott's seem to offer a good deal and they are always nice.
