A fairly sophisticated NY City friends of mine told me that they have seen Mary Poppins twice--that the production is spectacular and that it is housed in one of the most beautiful theaters in NYC (The New Amsterdam, built in 1901 and former home of the Ziegfield Follies). Disney restored the theater to its former splendor in 1997.

Unfortunately I have seen the Lion King, although I got out of Mary Poppins. And have been to Disney World twice - once voluntarily. There are certain parts of the latter (Epcot) that I found quite interesting/amusing.
But I almost literally fell asleep at Lion King. It just isn't my thing.
And I didn't say childish - I'm not accusing the shows of that. But they are childlike in being aimed at the inner child in all of us. (My inner child vastly prefers the Marx Brothers.)
