I added a bug post to a thread on central Minnesota. Bugs are something that can really ruin a trip if you aren't prepared, yet most guide books don't mention them.
Several years ago, my husband and I were hiking in some state parks along the north shore of Lake Superior. Without bug spray, we were attacked the moment we left our car. On the hiking trails, our legs were covered...the stores in town were out of mosquito repellant. I really wish I had known to bring my own! About a year after that, Newsweek had an article about vacationing in that area...it never once mentioned the mosquitoes.

I think gotravel is talking about the Bed bugs ones. Emmie picked up bedbugs at the Vagabond inn and is making it her mission to let everyone know.
She even has an email address ot bedbugsVagagbond@hotmail or something similar.
I agree with her wanting to post a warning- we manage rentals and they are turning up more often these days.
Hotels obviously are trying to address the problem quietly, but there's not much you can do to prevent a guest from bringing them in, and they don't make themselves visible until they're really established.
If you suspect you've had bedbugs, you should not bring your suitcase in your house. Empty it and put it in a plastic bag with mothballs or bug spray. The heat of a dryer will kill them if in your clothes, so wash and fry your travel stuff immediately.
So, it can be a real problem - but emmie is pulling up threads from years ago, and starting other new threads and repeating her story again and again... and again.

You are right, I am making the rounds. And I am informing people who may care.
Put yourself in my place for a moment. If this situation happened to you, you might feel the same way. You may also feel inclinded to take action. To get the word out about about a major public health/ travel related concern.
These travel forums are a way for all of us to express our experiences. My post is travel related.
Some people will find my posts and information helpful.
Some will not...and that is OK.
You can always stop reading when you realize a post does not interest you.

Emmie, I think there is a such thing as overkill. Posting your story once here would have been sufficient, and in many of your posts your anger seems to across to the reader. I know I have read some of your posts and felt like I was being attacked, or as someone else said, like I had just been yelled at.

Or "emmiegirl", you could just post the links instead of repeating the whole sad story.
