What's to do in Boyne Falls

We are thinking of going to Boyne Falls (new resort, not finished until December) over Memorial Day week. Thought this would be a good place to meet Chicago friends (how far is that for them?) and Canadian friends who live right across the border from Port Huron..
Would we fly into Flint? Is there enough to do around there and Petoskey and Traverse City areas for a week?
I have searched and search on the internet and all I can find about Boyne Falls is hotel rentals. If you have any websites I could check it would be very much appreciated!

Try Boyne City for your search.
Boyne Falls is a tiny place with just a resort in the ski hills. Down the road is Boyne City on Lake Charlevoix.
Why not stay in the Petoskey area? You would be closer to "things to do". Harbor Springs, Mackinac Island, Charlevoix and Traverse City....a bit further is a must see...Sleeping Bear Dunes.
There are loads of things to do and see in Northern Michigan.
On Memorial Day you may find snow on Boyne Mt.

If you golf, there's a high class golf course there "the bear"
If you look at a topographic map of Michigan, you'll note it's quite hilly.

There's a quaint town named Leland on Lake Michigan that's somewhat reminiscent of Maine fishing villages (no guarantees in life, tho)

In the last 10 years a number of wineries have sprung up in the region.

There's a gourmet type restaurant in a town called Ellsworth.

Lots of moneyed retirees live in the region, so I doubt they sought out a boring place to live.

You can fly into Flint, but Traverse City would be much handier, it is only an hour or so away.

Check on rental cars before you buy your ticket. The prices at TC change a great deal at different times of the year. Sometimes the best deal on a car is nearly 3 times as much as others.

Lansing or Grand Rapids would be at least as good as going into Flint. Maybe a bit better.

I have a cabin at Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls and don't have any idea what resort you are talking about. Boyne Mountain is really the only thing in Boyne Falls. Boyne is putting up a new Mountain Grand condo/hotel with an indoor waterpark at the base of the slopes - but it won't be done until 2005 or 2006. Possibly the new Bluegreen development at Boyne? If so - there's not much to it and it's not really part of Boyne proper. You'd be better off staying in Boyne's Disciples Ridge Villas, Mountain Cabins, Deer Lake Villas or at the Waterstreet Inn in Boyne City.

You won't find snow on Memorial Day - maybe a small pile under a snowgun. It's rather cool - but pretty this time of year. Boyne Falls is only 5-10 minutes from Boyne City which is a great little town - right on Lake Charlevoix with some great little restaurants - our favorite is the Red Mesa Grill.

Try flying into Pellston - it's the closest regional airport - although flights will be expensive. We live south of Flint and it takes us 3 hours to drive up.

Traverse City isn't that great, and it's quite a little drive away. Charlevoix, Petoskey and Harbor Springs are lovely little towns. You are only going to be 45 minutes from the bridge - Mackinaw Island might be a nice day trip. Golf at the Boynes is great - especially Crooked Tree, and Bay Harbor.

Try the Boyne website - www.boyne.com. It's the resort - but you will get and idea of what the area is like. (click to Boyne Mountain).

The Bluegreen Resort is called Mountain Run at Boyne. The address shows as 03095 Boyne Mountain Road, Boyne Falls, MI
Is this a new place or are did they buy something and start a remodel? The photos show what appears to be a clock tower...and the photos of the rooms are only artists renderings...

The new Bluegreen at Boyne is indeed new from groun up. The clocktower piture is of the old Boyne Mountain Lodge at the base of the ski slopes near the airstrip. It is adjacent to the farthest slopes. Unfortunately, it didn't look like much going up - architecturally or structurally. Last visit was over Labor Day - checked it out on the way out of the resort - couple of buildings look like they will be complete by ski season.

I live in Petoskey, and have to agree with the above posters.....I personally think there are much better places to stay in Charlevoix, Petoskey or Harbor Springs for Memorial Weekend than Boyne Mountain! Yes they have some nice golf courses there, but there are plenty in the surrounding areas. Its pretty scenic there in the fall, but I think you'd do better in one of the towns I mentioned. There is plenty to do for a week...lots of wonderful dining, etc., but be aware, this area is heavy resort and summer traffic and is just really opening up this time of year. If the weather is great, it will be busy. If not, it will be much quieter! Enjoy!
